Paul Stoddard smiling up out of his coffin at Jeb.

Mrs. Johnson dead in 1995.

Petofi coming out of the room after reattaching his own Hand.

I thought Grandmama coming back to haunt Quentin "Give back the will, Quentin..." was very scary and creepy -- that smile in the coffin, opening his door and coming in at him, sitting in the chair, dead, with that smile....Ack - shiver.   :o

Also, I found Alexander in Leviathan time very creepy.

When Alexis looks down on her sister Angelique's body in the coffin, touch's her, and that was all she wrote. >:D
Cassandra:  I have a potion.  You know it well.  As soon as she drinks it, within an hour, she will go to sleep and have the dream.
Nicholas:  I am much to talented to spend my time drugging drinks.

Scariest? Definitely whenever a hand (or body) of the dead and buried shot up through the dirt from their unquiet grave. Brrrrrrrr!

Oh Sandor, for half a second I read that as "whenever a hand or body part shot up through the dirt...."

Good lord, where is my mind today??  LOL

Sigh...in the gutter, as per usual... >:D

I was a kid back in '67 (I was ten) when one scene caused me to put my hands before my eyes (and then peak through the fingers):  when the ghost of Jeremiah, all bloody and mummy-like, carried Angelique off and dumped her into that grave, pouring dirt over her.  I didn't sleep for a week.

My scariest moment is pretty lame but here it is - I was a kid just beginning to watch DS during the Jason McGuire story.  I remember being freaked out when Jason and Liz went to the basement of Collinwood to dig up the body of Paul Stoddard.  I had nightmares for a week and was too scared to watch the show for awhile until a friend convinced me I was missing out on a cool show.  So I eased back into it.  My little brother, on the other hand, was terrified by the severed hand of Count Petofi.  All I had to do was bend my fingers into a claw and he'd freak.  Ah, that's when life was good. ;D

Yes indeed, terror.   Who wouldn't look back fondly onto those good times?!

As an infantile individual, I was ossified by Count Petofi's manual organic contivance.    I mean, with that great big bone thingie sticking out of it, and everything.

I remember being terrified by the ghost of Quentin Collins as a little girl...whenever he came on screen, he gave me the chills. I was afraid to go into a darken room thinking I might find Quentin there.

Also the episode where Petofi
has gone into a trance using the I-Ching....instead of going to the future he goes into a place where he hears the gypsies coming for him.....he tries to escape....he opens a door and there was Barnabas, fangs and all, looking all evil!
That scared the daylights out of me.

There's a blooper in 1968 that strikes me as creepy.  Willie's down in the basement of the Old House cleaning up after some shenanigan or other, and griping all the way.  Right at the beginning of the scene, a crew member passes in front of the camera.  John Karlen very properly took no notice of him.  What with the atmosphere in that basement, it seems as though the crew member is in fact a ghost whom Willie isn't capable of seeing.   It gives me this weird feeling that Dark Shadows storylines were just the tip of the iceberg and that the Old House was simply crawling with unknown ghosts.
