P.J. Hogan apparently wanted to "make the ¢â‚¬Ëœnew' Collinsport real without getting into too much gothic cliche." Hmm. I don't think I like that remark. I do like the idea of making Collinsport itself a "character", but I think they did that in the original show too. Downplaying the classic literary elements of the gothic as "cliche'" in favor of a 'real' Collinsport, however, I'm not too happy about. But it's hard to form any kind of opinion without having actually seen the pilot, so I might be reading too much into that comment.
