Again, I'm not making an issue of my posts, but it's with my posts that I notice if something is wrong!

I made 2 replies in one thread (and someone else then replied after that).  I then started 2 new topics.  When I was finished with everything, I checked out the last 10 posts, to make sure that I had seen everything.  My 2 new topics and the other person's reply that followed mine were there, but my other two replies, which had occurred just before that, weren't there and the previous 7 (presumably) items filled up the top 10.

Josette, you made 2 replies in the "Picky complaints" thread both dated March 12 and time stamped 8 and 11 minutes after the hour, and then you started 2 new topics at 21 and 28 minutes after the hour called "Just what IS Nathan" and "Angelique's Witchcraft" respectively.  So in other words, they're there on the board. But don't forget that the boards bump every thread that contains any new post to the top (case in point:  the Robservations board-- the topics aren't in the same order as when Robin created them because if someone posts a reply, it's going to pull that summary to the top), and with all the boards as busy as they've been lately, I'm not surprised that by the time you finished you weren't seeing all the threads you'd contributed to listed in the top 10 anymore, (nor should they have been marked as "new" anymore on your screen unless someone had added a response since you last accessed them).

Or, maybe I'm misunderstanding your question?

Midnite, if there had been a bunch of other posts at that time and mine just weren't in the "top 10" anymore, I could understand that.  But 2 of my 4 posts and the 1 response to mine made up the 1st 3, and then 7 posts from earlier filled out the 10.  There should have been 4 from me plus that other one and then only 5 of the earlier ones left.

The posts did show in their proper thread, so they were obviously there.  But, somehow they didn't register for the 10 most recent.

Josette,

Ever since I read your first post about this yesterday, I've been keeping track of the posts on the board and doing a few random checks of my list against the posts that come up in the 10 most recent, and everything checks out fine. I don't doubt that this probably happened to you, but I'm at a loss to explain it. I've even tried several different searches on YaBB's Support Forums to see if anyone else has ever had this particular problem happen on their forum and asked what may have caused it. But if they have, I couldn't find any of their posts, or any reference in known issues. [sadb]

The only thing I can say is that if this happens to you again, and you see that I'm logged in, send me an IM. Or if I'm not online, copy the listing on the ten most recent posts, paste it into an e-mail, and send me a copy. I'll try to see what may have happened. But I can't offer any more than that at this time.

Thank you, MB!  My main concern is that after presumably reading everything, I check the last 10 just in case I skipped something or something was posted while I was reading other things.  I just figured if I know that 2 items were missing one time, perhaps others could be missing.  It certainly seems very weird!  I'm glad all of your checking shows it working right!!

Hi MB!

It's happened again.  When I was here a while ago, the last post was from Ben - Barn and Ben:  a 1795 Highlight at 11:19 p.m. the 17th.

I came back a few minutes ago and checked the last 10 and the only post listed after that was from Midnite on Luciaphil's board at 12:07a.m. the 18th.

However, I checked the Current Discussion board and found some new items.  There was Bobubas at 12:04 a.m and Minja at 12:19 a.m. in the O.T. Message for Unregistered Membes and again Bobubas and Minja at 11:59 p.m. and 12:08 a.m. in the St. Patrick's Day thread.

Before starting to write this, I checked the top 10 again and found that the 2 Minja items had appeared, but the 2 Bobubas ones were still missing.

Josette,

I've disabled this feature and I've contacted YaBB support so they'll hopefully clarify how it's supposed to work.

Anyone who clicks on it will be taken back to the DSF home page until further notice.

It's nice that you've notified their support, so that presumably it will be fixed.  However, I don't know that it needed to be disabled.  It apparently worked most of the time, and even when it didn't, it caught most of the items.

I did find that it worked consistently, but it displayed only one post per thread, so what you were seeing was the last message in each thread that had a new post.  So that's why you saw Minja's replies to Bobubas but not his messages in the listing, yet if you were to load each of those threads you would indeed see all the newest messages (with Bob's right above Minja's in the threads).  However, if it was going to mislead readers by its title ("10 most recent posts") then MB disabled it, and YaBB needs to clarify if this is how it's supposed to work.

As for your observations below, maybe it takes a few minutes before messages show up in the listing?

YaBB support has clarified how the feature works and the way they'd worded it was definitely misleading. It doesn't actually bring up the 10 most recent posts - it lists the last post that's been made in the 10 most recently updated topics and sorts those 10 posts by date/time in descending order.
In other words, say I come to the forum and read 7 different topics and I decide to make 1 post in 6 of those topics and 4 posts in the 7th. If I then use this feature, what will come up are the 6 single posts that I made in the 6 topics along with the last post I made in the 7th. The other 3 posts that I'd also made in that 7th topic won't show up because they aren't the last post in that topic. In their place 3 other posts that were made to 3 other topics before I came to the board will come up to make up the total of 10. (It is somewhat confusing, so I hope I've explained that all clearly. :) )

Anyway, I've changed the wording in the link so that hopefully there won't be any more misunderstandings.
And maybe someone should think about sending the YaBB developers back for a refresher English class because it seems that they were all absent the first time around on the days their teachers explained what the words recent, previous and next mean and how to use them. [winkb]

Thank you both - that certainly explains the situation.  However, I find that it makes the feature useless.  The only thing I use it for is after presumably reading everything, to check if I missed something or if something else was posted in the meantime.  Since it will obviously not list items if more than one are in the same thread, then I could still be missing something.  Apparently, it's best just to refresh the page and check if anything "new" is listed!!
