We Know They're Not Prudes In 1795

Some comments are made, an eyebrow is occasionally raised, but one would think that the 1795 crowd would be more vocal about what Vicki was wearing. For cryin' out loud, you could see her...her...legs! The trollop! Nathan Forbes and Barnabas Collins, being gentlemen, should've shielded their eyes; Naomi Collins should've swooned and fainted with great physical passementerie. Sarah Collins should've asked why she was walking around in such strange undergarments. But all gave very little notice to any of it.

In the '91 remake, Dan Curtis had Victoria Winters II wearing what was called a "Maxi" in the late 60s/early 70s, so she didn't appear so stylishly wanton (but still risque enough for them to whisper).

Vicki thinks she's actually dreaming. Maybe she is. You know, the kind we all have, when we find ourselves in a packed supermarket wearing nothing but our unmentionables.

Gerard, every time I cast my glad eyes upon Lieutenant Forbes' breeches, I'm so glad they're not prudes in 1795!

Ready to rise to the occasion to, uh, defend Nathan's, uh, honor,

Steve

PS. Wait for dear Aunt Abigail's acid comments upon Miss Winters' wardrobe tomorrow! In Hawaii, her dress choice would be banned as "clothing that inspires devil worship." One of the few moments I actually enjoyed of the 1991 "remake" was the fabulous Barbara Blackburn's performance of the lines where Abigail describes the Satanic symbols upon the laundry label on Vicki's clothing. Great stuff.

Oops, I goofed. Abigail was played in 1991 by Julianna McCarthy (who has quite a string of horror films listed under her name on IMDB). I'm sure I made the mistake because in the actual series Abigail was of course played by the divine Clarice Blackburn.

She's also known to 1970s-early 80s daytime viewers from the Young and the Restless, as Snapper and Chris' Mom who eventually married the rich newspaper publisher, Mr. Brooks (after his wife died of breast cancer and her daughter Jill quickly married & divorced him. . ) Wow! I remember way to much crud. . .really.. .this show was on when i was 8! Y &R is the **most** depressing daytime tv show in history if you ask me. .the lighting, i think its the lighting. .

I was wondering the same thing about the lack of considertion Vicky's legs were given. It was unheard of to show a woman's ankle, let alone her bare leg!
Yes when Julia shows up in 1897 in a miniskirt. .Quentin and his brother Jamison are quite "fascinated" with her clothing or lack thereof
. . .J99

Speaking of Ms. McCarthy. I was scanning some magazines this morning that I plan to put up on eBAY, and a wonderful 4 page article about her was in this one below. As fate would have it, another actress associated with Dark Shadows is also featured in a 4 page article in this 1976 magazine. She made her debut in todays first episode as Phylis Wick......she is Dorrie Kavanaugh!

She played the mother of Snapper, Greg, and Jill. Chris was married to Snapper. I loved the dark lighting on Y+R. I miss it. It made everything more dramatic. A lot of people think it was depressing,I think of it as dramatic.
