Today's Special Musical Guest...(inspired by Dom)
« on: January 24, 2003, 08:21:51 AM »
Noticing the drawing of the Supremes on one of Dom's postings, I began to think how cool it would have been if DC and Company incorporated guest appearances by the music stars of the day into DS episodes.  They could have lip-synched, in the AMERICAN BANDSTAND style, at the Blue Whale.
Granted, it would have disrupted the tone of the series, but considering DS' teen appeal, it would have made a great vehicle for any artist promoting a new record.

Regards,

John

I can see it now: Carolyn sitting at the Blue Whale after her breakup with Buz(z), visibly shaken and distraught as The Shangri-las sing, Leader Of The Pack. "...and now he's gone. Gone, gone, gone, gone, gone, gone..."

Just think of the 60s songs they could have put on the juke box for our favorite characters to play to suit their moods!

If only,
dom (Picturing Maggie putting a quarter in the juke box to listen to, My World Is Empty Without You, after her breakup with Joe.)

Don't get me started! [see also: 'early commercial' thread I just started!]

but re: Maggie's 'jukebox' you got FIVE for a quarter back then, so she would also have punched:

End of the World - Herman's Hermits definitive version
Crying - Roy Orbison [WITHOUT kd lang]
96 Tears - ? & the Mysterians
Since I Don't Have You - The Skyliners

cheers,
Ringo, always ready for a little Brother Ray

What if The Mamas and The Papas were special musical guests on "Dark Shadows" and the band stays at the Evans Cottage and Sam, Maggie, and Joe sings along with The Mamas and The Papas while saying "California Dreamin".

Then at Collinwood, The Mamas and The Papas make a visit and Carolyn saids "You're, you're The Mamas and The Papas" and Mama Cass says "That's right". "I love your music and I've got some of your records", Carolyn says and Michelle says "Thanks." and John says "You want a autograph picture" and Carolyn says "I'll be delighted" and David Collins comes down the stairs and Carolyn says to David "This is The Mamas and The Papas" and David shakes hands and Mama Cass says "I'm Cass Elliott, but you can call me Mama Cass" and Michelle says "I'm Michelle Phillips, John Phillips wife" and Denny says "I'm Denny Doherty" and John says "I'm John Phillips, the founder of the band". Vicki and Roger exited the Drawing room and Vicki screams "It's The Mamas and The Papas, in person at Collinwood". and Roger saids "Who are those hippies" and John says "We're not hippies, we're musicians", "Where The Mamas and The Papas". Roger shakes hands with the band. They go to the drawing room and look at the Collins family history. Denny saids "Who that nice young girl", "That's Josette Collins, she was Jeramiah's wife and she sadly jumped off Widow's Hill in 1796", Mama Cass says "I'm sorry to hear that". Liz comes in the drawing room and Roger says "There talented musicians, The Mamas and The Papas", Liz shakes hands with them and tell the names and Mrs. Johnson came too.  They begin to sing-a-long with the band while singing "Monday, Monday". "It's nice to visit you and don't forget, we will be playing a concert at The Blue Whale on Friday night.", John saids and Liz saids "I'll see you there." the band leaves the house.

At The Blue Whale on Friday Night, Joe and Maggie are at the table and Joe is drinking his beer and Maggie is smiling and reading the pamplet. Joe see's Sam, Sheriff George Patterson, Sam's friend Herman Drake and his brother Sherman Drake and The Collins family arriving. Then Barnabas, Willie, and Dr. Hoffman arrives and they took a seat at the table. The crowd cheering "We want The Mamas and The Papas, we want The Mamas and The Papas, we want The Mamas and The Papas, we want The Mamas and The Papas, we want The Mamas and The Papas" and Bartender Rooney saids "Here they are the one and only The Mamas and The Papas" and the band arrived and John begins to play "California Dreamin" and the crowd begins to dance and sing-a-long. Then they played "Monday, Monday", "I saw her again last night," "Straight Shooter", "Somebody Groovy", "Hey Girl", then Joe and Maggie begin to dance as they played "My Heart Stood Still", then when they played "Got a Feelin'" Maggie is dancing with Joe and begins to sing for him as the band sings. Then they played "Creeque Alley" and Carolyn begins to dance and then they singed "My Girl", "No Salt on Her Tail", "The In Crowd", "Sing for your supper", "Boys and Girls together" and then the band invites Maggie Evans to sing "String Man" and she sings the song as the crowd cheers for her and Sam is very proud of her and during the Trumpet and Trombone interlude part and Maggie begins dancing with Joe and she goes back singing the song, Then they played "Frustration", they played "Words of Love", "Twist and Shout", "Free Advice", and The crowd begins to sing the final song "I Can't Wait" and at the guitar interlude they begin to danced. At the end of the song Denny says "Thank you for our concert."

I can imagine the Mamas and the Papas singing at the Blue Whale.  Or the Turtles ("It Ain't Me, Babe"), since David had one of their posters (or album covers) on his bedroom wall. 8-)
