JK is so good in today's episode.  But I don't know how he kept from cracking up when he was running around calling  "Pansy Faye, my darling, where are you?"  8-)

Oh, I'm quite sure he DID crack up, Maria.  I have no doubt that the instant they called "clear" he fell down on one of those poofy couchs and cackled hysterically at his own performance.  And every one on the set no doubt howled along with him.

Years of keeping a straight face while Dennis Patrick did his damnedest to make him laugh must have taught him iron self-control in front of the camera.

It's just so sad that Carl loved that little bimbo so devoutedly while she obviously only wanted him for his family's name and wealth.

Does John Karlen ever get to play a character that somone really and truly loves in this show?  Ever?

They must have cracked up a lot during the Experiment mess :)

What kills me is that bit where Judith realizes that he's brought someone home with him again and makes that tantalizing mention of "that awful poet" so this is like a regular thing apparently.

Yep, in the very end.  Too bad it was in during the generall sucky (strictly IMHO, there are lots who love 1841PT) period.

Well, given what we've seen of Carl and his relationship to every single member of that wretched household, is it any wonder?  Do you imagine he's ever for one instant felt "loved" by any member of his own family?

What happens to unloved children?  They either become incapable of loving anyone else, or they seek it out  any and everywhere they can.  And who would recognize Carl's pathetic, desperate need to be loved fastest?  A con artist.

I must not have been listening too carefully....I don't remember Judith referring to an "awful poet".  But it would reinforce the image of Carl as a child who loves to be "entertained" by "artistic" women.

Well, I tend to agree with YOUR take on things DS (except Beth....you have some sympathy for her....I'd cheerfully kick her keister right off a cliff!) so I guess I'll be gritting my teeth through another story line just to watch JK perform!

Also in 1840.  Leticia loved him.  Remember the scene when he's lying in the fishing shack injured, and she's there with him?   :-*  And that scene in jail where they're exchanging vows?

D'oh. Forgot about that. I don't think I was the most attentive viewer for much of 1840. I got a kick out of the Gabriel, Samantha, Gerard and Edith bits, but Leticia really didn't do much for me.

And yes, Rainey, I do have some sympathy for Beth :)

"that awful poet"

Was it "that awful poet?"  Thought I heard Judith mention some "tart" Carl brought home from Albany, or do I need a hearing aid? [undg]

If I knew Carl was in the area, I would have made myself available. Sorry, Rainey, but Carl came to upstate NY to pick up his "poetic tart."

You know what I'm REALLY wondering about now?

Where did Carl get the funds to go to Atlantic City anyway?  Wasn't the whole point of the BIG DEAL over Grandmamama's Will that JUDITH got ALL the money?  Why on earth would she hand over funds for Carl to piss away in the Victorian version of Sin City?  Or Albany, NY, for that matter?

He must've gotten something because he mentioned that he and Pansy were going to live in the "cottage" that grandmama gave him. "It said so in the will," Carl said to Barnabas

Rainey, you aren't missing a thing! No, I take that back.
We've got the Empire State Plaza with our own Twin Towers, The Egg for Theatrical Performances altho it looks like a  flying saucer that landed on its side, and the huge NYS Museum that will have a permanent exhibit on WTC. Steel beams recovered from WTC are being installed for the exhibition plus a NYFD truck that was crushed is on exhibit as well.
Then you've got Saratoga north of us, the Berkshires east of us, and Leatherstocking country west of us.

Most likely Judith willingly gave those funds to Carl in hopes of escaping his many untimely and unappreciated in my opinion, pranks [jester]... I happen to enjoy Carl's sense of humor.  He and pansy might have been joyously happy had they not fallen under the curse of Collinwood's Dark Shadows.

Not too sure of the time period (1841 PT?)  when Melanie had a thing for Kendrick Young.  And with all due craziness aside, I think they wound up happily ever after. ;-)

Yes, John played a part where someone actually loves him.  Hence my screen name...

I like the actress who played Pansy Faye, Kay Frye. I thought she did a great job at playing her.

Carl seems a different than the way he was the last time we saw him back in the Quentin-is-a-zombie episodes. Even though I think JK is pretty good in the current episodes, I thought Carl was better at the beginning. JMO.
