What did Hoffman say before ECS told her she'd handle Maggie?
Looking at the Robservations, I think it seems to have been "Mrs. Collins, you don't mean that," after Maggie said she wanted to die. I didn't catch it myself, and was sorely tempted to go back, but my rule for the Watching Project is that I don't go back. Sometime or other I want to go back, though, and have another look at Hoffman as we briefly see her outside Angelique's room, before Elizabeth comes along. What is she thinking? Grayson Hall knew.
He has power over portraits and people's eyes....?!
It's surprising, but I enjoyed it too much to quibble.
I found this to be a wonderfully absorbing episode all the way through, with lots of interesting talk. Barnabas was being a little too obvious about his suspicion of Angelique, but he was very handsome in that period costume while he was doing it (maybe the reason he kept it on for longer than necessary was that he knows perfectly well how good he looks in it, or maybe it was just that it felt so good to be back in the clothes of his own time), and anyway, it would have been out of character for him not to be obvious about his suspicions.
It was fun to see Frid, Hall, and Parker together in the drawing room - Barnabas, Julia, and Angelique, but a different Julia and a different Angelique so that the dynamics were completely different from what we would see in our own time.
I'm slow - very slow - but I today finally got why we had to have the costume business.
