Well Ben said she needed medical attention too and she said "No - I know what to do for myself." So I presume she has some sort of spell/potion/method of "curing" herself if it's as simple as a gun shot wound (versus a curse, i guess!)

How did Angelique survive that gunshot wound?  By having the one thing more powerful than witchcraft could ever be:  an HMO that actually pays.

I'm not sure if my faulty memory serves me, but it was mentioned somewhere (maybe in Lara Parker's "Angelique's Descent") that the wound was not that deep as either Angelique or Barnabas thought, more of a messy flesh wound than anything else.

The problem with that is as another poster pointed out, in those days, bullets were rather large lead balls that left equally rather large holes.  Yes, Angelique as a witch, could have healed herself, but I do have to wonder that there wasn't more blood or some sort of large gap.  A messy flesh wound should be that, messy  8)

Whenever I have watched these episodes, I always thought that, as a witch, Angelique was immune to anything as mundane as a gunshot wound.    One of the things I like about the 1795 storyline is that it seems that you are watching Angelique learn about her own powers as it goes along.  They even imply in one line, I believe, that the choking spell on Barnabas was the first spell she ever cast (though I would doubt that, her Maman had obviously taught the child a lot about spellcraft).

When Angelique does appear to die subsequently, it is at the hands of a creature of the supernatural, and as the apparent result of her own curse, as Barnabas gloatingly informs her.  But watch out kids, she may be back ...

Angelique's comin' ... look busy!

The fact that Angelique was a witch with powers at her command should say it all. [santa_wink]
Instead of shooting her in the shoulder, Barnabas should have blown her head off, thus sparing him and the family her awful, eternity lasting curse. Of course this IS Angelique we're talking about, she'd probably return as a ghost like she did to Ben in the mausoleum and curse Barnabas then.
I'm sure Barnabas was aiming for something more vital than what he got.  Or else the bullet was like one of those in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, with a mind of its own.  Given the wandering nature of Jeremiah's bullet wound, it wouldn't surprise me.

Angelique may have been immune to a gunshot wound, but she hadn't learned that yet.  As I remember it, she later said that the reason she threw the curse on Barnabas was that she thought she was dying.  It's a pity we couldn't see her watching the wound close, and saying, "COOL!"

I agree with Gerard and Gothick. I do believe that LP mentioned in AD that the wound Angelique sustained was only a flesh wound, and that's the reason why she lived. Though, if memory serves, she did seem to die, eyes closing, slumping to the floor and everything. Maybe she just passed out from the pain.

But, as someone else pointed out, bullets during that time, when they hit something, didn't graze past like bullets of today do. They went right through and took some stuff with them. So, to me, the flesh wound thing doesn't really make sense so I'd like to think that she used her own powers to heal herself. Or maybe her powers can command her body to heal itself on it's own, since Angelique would've been unconscious from pain.

And as Lydia said, Barnabas was most likely aiming for something else, I always thought that he was aiming for the heart (didn't someone in the series, like Barnabas, say that's what he was aiming for?). Perhaps the firing of the gun caused Barnabas to jerk back, thus making his bullet stray from its course.
