Another thing, I wonder how he got home from the Blue Whale? I thought Joe was suppose to take him home? But wouldn't you think that Joe would have at least walked him to the door?
I have this horrible image in my head of a blind Sam stumbling home all the way from town probably nearly risking death more than once. It's terribly unPC of me, but he was probably blind drunk as well. Why the hell did they keep him blind any way? I've heard the KLS story about him being so dependent on the teleprompter, but seriously if that was the case, half the cast should have been wearing dark glasses.
As for Liz and Cassandra, I don't know what it is that Cassandra seems to have against Liz. Perhaps she senses that she really doesn't trust her, but then again, no one else at Collinwood does either. You would think that Cassandra would have put that spell on Carolyn instead. Carolyn had also caught the two of them together at the Gazebo and even threatened to tell her Uncle Roger all about it. So what happened there? After all, Barnabas, Julia, Carolyn and even Professor Stokes know about the two of them.
The cynical answer here is that the writers needed to write Joan Bennett out so that she could go do a play or get her face lifted or so that she could take a well-earned vacation.
But you're totally right. Cassandra has been caught no less than three times in that gazebo (general rule of thumb for sneaking around: places in full view are not a real good idea). As you said, Carolyn, Professor Stokes, Julia and Barnabas know. Roger probably has a damned good idea. Hell, Mrs. Johnson probably knows. And I'm betting that the people in Tony's apartment building know too.
So this is like what? Putting up an umbrella in the middle of a tornado.
I see the motivation for the hatred of Liz. I suspect that little chat about Cassandra's reasons for marrying Roger got under the second Mrs. Collins' skin more than she would like to admit. But again, she could have been a little more patient or cast a spell of some nature to make Liz like her.
As for Liz's new hobby, I could be more forgiving of Cassandra if the resulting spell was less mind-numbingly boring. But it's not
