i wanted to reply to the topic of festival footage on youtube but it has been locked. what is the reason for videotaping being banned at festivals? i know performances have always had videotaping restrictions but questions and answers sessions have always been ok for taping untill last year.
I don't know the reason for not allowing people to videotape Q&As. I'm wondering if it's a mindset that if people with videocameras are in the ballroom taping Q&As they can readily videotape other things such as performances.
then it was thought to be because of nancy barrett being upset over her show being taped and sold. nancy was not even at the festival this year.
It wasn't just Nancy Barrett. Performance footage of other actors was being sold without the actor's permission or giving them any payment. Just last week I had to issue a cease and desist from someone who was trying to sell JF's Saturday performance.
seems unfair that videographers that want to videotape dont because they dont want to break the rules and then others go ahead and do it anyway.
I agree. I don't see any harm in people being allowed to videotape Q&As, skits, etc. There are people who always who break the rules and those who will not. It's never fair. There were people videotaping on Saturday when they should not have been and while some were stopped, others were not because either (a) they weren't visible to fest staff people or (b) they were in an awkward place and it would have created a major disturbance to have crawled/walked to that place to ask them to stop.
I'm wondering if in the latter case we could develop cement spitballs and shoot them at the people who are videotaping when they should not be. My aim is usually pretty good . . .
