At this point I'm looking forward to Josette's jump. She has been through so much already - and there's more to come.
There's a wonderful moment (for me, anyway) when the Countess goes to Josette's room to tell André to go to bed. She wakes him up saying "André" and pauses for a second or two before saying anything more. So all you've got is "André" with a nice French r, and no English - and for that moment, the Countess feels French to me.
I think that Louis Edmonds had a blooper today, but if so, he recovered from it so well - as was his wont - that it's hard to be 100% sure. It was when Joshua was talking to Naomi in the foyer of Collinwood, and was stuck for a name, which Naomi supplied: "The Countess?" and Joshua said, "I never know what to call her." It was wonderfully in character for Joshua, but I find it hard to believe that Edmonds and Bennett could have done it so smoothly from a script. I like to imagine this being the umpteenth time that Joshua refused to say the Countess's name or title, forcing Naomi to do it for him.
Meanwhile, the Countess has a grand old time earning Joshua's dislike. What wouldn't I give to be a fly on the wall at dinnertime at Collinwood! How often during this storyline do you suppose Joshua sent a messenger boy home from the shipyard to tell Naomi he'd be working late tonight?
