The story was interesting and disturbing. Here is an interesting fact
The morning of June 27th was clear and sunny, with the fresh warmth of a full-summer day; the flowers were blossoming profusely and the grass was richly green
>:D >:D

LOL, loril54i.  I didn't make the connection to the anniversary of DS when I read it.  ::)

I don't think the DS version is very similar at all, except for the fact that
in both stories it was NOT a good thing to win the lottery!
I think there are several similar themes-- the idea of keeping a secret, the cruelty to one another as families blindly follow tradition (the older generation being particularly accepting of both) or the evil nature that can lurk behind rituals, the beautiful house (on DS)/beautiful summer day and bustling activity as a foreshadowing of evil, etc.

When I first read this story in high school it haunted me for days.

Indeed Alondra, I was an English major in college and read it then.  It was an awesome, albeit disturbing, tale.   :-
Buzz-isms:

"I like the bike I got, & the chick I got!"
"I know just the place!?Over in Logansport!"
"If ya feel it, SIT it!"
"Come on, before he offers me a side car too!"
"Her nose needed some powder!"
"You askin' me to give up something I like?"

It is interesting what people do because they are afraid to break a tradition.  All the things that people do because they can't say stop. As teenagers we all thought that we were breaking traditions and then we started our own. Maybe why that is why DS was so popular.

Hey, thanks Jackie (and a belated thanks to Midnite!). I saw it on the avatar site CastleBee shared with us a bit ago. As soon as I saw it I knew what I had to do, lol. It was your current home-made avatar that inspired me to bring my idea to fruition.

I'm reading a Julia/Barnabas fanfic where they go on adventure after adventure.  Barnabas learned to drive, ride a motorcycle and somewhat learning to fly a small aircraft.  It's lot of fun to imagine our 18th century man doing these 20th century activities.

Barnabas being able to drive always seemed ludicrous to me as a kid. Even now it strikes me as something Barn would opt out of learning.
