The recent thread concerning worst DS memorabilia made me think how relatively easy  it would be to reproduce Josette's music box - that is, for someone with the right skills of course (which excludes me).

Here's my idea...

1. Take one Russian Tea Glass - with copper filigree bottom

2. Remove the handle.

3. Either fashion a lid out of thin copper or find one that fits from a flea market sugar bowl or small canister of some kind and spray with a thin coat of copper colored paint.

4. Attach to glass with a small hinge (possibly at the spot where the handle was)

I'm not sure how you would actually add the music but, that small part probably could be removed from one of the plastic ones.

Personally, I wouldn't go to the trouble but, for someone who had the ability and urge to give it a try, I think it could be done - and probably wouldn't be all that expensive to do.

CastleBee - what a great idea!

I just did a search and here is a Russian Tea Glass Holder that looks like it might do the job...

Maybe some creative and talented metal worker could work some magic and make a Josette's Music Box...  If someone does, please let me know first!!!  I might be able to take it off your hands... :-)

Oh, I can just imagine someone trying to sell a few of these Russion Tea Glasses, and suddenly being overwhelmed by offers.......and wondering What The Hell had just caused a run on the market. [lghy]

It's actually a very clever idea, Castlebee, to start with one of those if trying to re-create the music box!  [thumb]

Hey, CastleBee, what a great idea! I wish I had the skills to make one.  8)
If anyone makes one, they should let us know how it turns out. then that person might just get bombarded with requests to make one for each of us. LOL!  ;D

Ironically, the original seemed cobbled together from spare parts!  If I'm not mistaken, at one point in the show, they actually used some kind of opaque tape as a hinge on the "fabled" music box.  Ah, the magic of television! >:D

I'd love to have a real music box too. I detest that ugly brown stripe down the middle--what on earth made them decide to include that?

...and a note to the craftsperson:  "Could you please put in the ORIGINAL music?"

I much prefer the original version of the piece and wonder why they changed it.   [hall2_rolleyes]

I would much rather make my own than pay $200+ for an original one, or spend $50 on that cheesy MPI reproduction. I was thinking about buying one over the net by when I went to the fest and saw it in person--I was flabbergasted at how small and dinky it was.

I have a music box that plays the music. But it's not like the one seen in the show. It's a silver music box with purple velvet inside. When you open it and twist the thingy, it plays. I'm happy with it.

They have other music boxes that play the same song? That's neat!  [hall_cool]

Yea! It doesn't look like the original at all. But it is quite cute and very attractive, though I hated it when I first got it because it wasn't the real thing. Knowing what they go for, I'm very happy with this one which was rather cheap. They were popular on ebay like 4 or 5 years ago. Maybe someone will put them up there again. I don't even remember who was selling them. But the music is the original, I believe, and it sounds just great! [female_skull]

I think I saw a box like that on ebay--I wanted to get it, but it was selling for over $100. I love both tunes of the music box--both are equally haunting. I personally love the look of the revival series box. I know it at one of the fest's. I wish they'd sell reproductions of it--as long as it was cheap looking.

Brandon,

Is there anyway you can post a pic of your music box? I'm curious to see if that's the one I saw on ebay. I've been trying to find another copy of that music box. :(

I wonder if there is anywhere I can find a near replica of the 1991 box...I actual prefer that box to the original. I know the prop was sold at one of the fests but I think they could have pleased many fans by creating nice replicas (not cheap plastic) of the 1991 boxes. I'd also love a box with the first tune...though I do love the Cobert version.
