You have just purchased either Collinwood or The Old House from "Shady Deal Real Estate".  You want to redecorate before you move in.  What would you like to change?  ::)

This should be fun.

I'd rip down all the draperies and curtains on the windows and let some sunlight into the place (which might cut down on visits from SOME of the relatives  ;) )......and I'd auction ALL those hideous 'portraits' off and get rid of them....THAT should lift a curse or two!!   ;D

Then I'd put all the Gothic furniture into storage (I've read it's coming back into style! :o)....and replace it with Arts and Crafts pieces (my own favorite).

And finally, I'd keep Mr. Loomis on permanent retainer...for all those "little repairs" a house that large constantly requires! [blshy] [lghy]

Rainey....who lives in an old house with new windows and NO curtains!

Well, If I lived at Collinwood, I would definetely change those walls. That stone just seems so cold to me. I need a much warmer setting. Would also add more modern pictures on the wall, enough of those old ancestors from hundreds of years ago, I want a home, not a museum. I could always fix up another room just for that purpose, with old pictures, antiques & such. Also, add blinds instead of those heavy drapes.  OH! And I would definetely add a TV in the drawing room! Seems odd they never had one in any of the rooms. I guess with all the adventure there, they don't really need one. I also would add wall to wall carpet through out the foyer & drawing room and add more flowers around the house to brightened up the place.

Actually, I prefer the old house anyway to Collinwood. The old house seems much warmer to me. I wouldn't have to change much there except maybe the drapes and wall coloring.

After purchasing Collinwood, I would put a spa in the gazebo area. I have a spa and gazebo, so every time I see that gazebo, I think there should be a spa with it! Since the weather is stormy most of the time, I think I would put in a indoor pool and spa also. If the water at Collinwood is like the water here in Las Vegas, I would install a water purifier to get rid of the calcium build up. Must have central air and heating. I'll keep Mrs. Johnson, and Harry around. They're all the help I need.

I don't mind the old portraits so much.  I think the first thing I would do would be to go through the whole house and see what the rest of the furniture was like.  The brightly colored sheets would be out.  Maybe some warmer colors and more rugs.  The kitchen would need a complete overhaul too.

Much of the furniture in the drawing room has got to go.  I'd keep some of those cool chairs along the wall but I'd get something period but less sharp and stiff looking to replace the couch.

Worse by far than anything the drawing room has to offer is Carolyn's mod bedroom furniture which I find extra visually offensive - partly due to the icky color scheme and partly due to the size and the fact that it just does NOT look like it belongs in that house.   This room would have to be completely overhauled IMO.  I would shoot for something light airy and feminine but antique and more in keeping with the style of the house.

Vicki, Roger, Liz and later Amy's rooms seemed good but David's room also got on my nerves for some reason.  I think it was the bed, which seemed too small for the room.  So, I'd take out this small bed and put in a larger one that might balance the space a little better.  I think it would have looked a little more realistic on the show had they hung a few more posters and at least given him a portable B&W TV¢â‚¬¦they might have even slopped it up a bit too (but then they did have Mrs. Johnson who I'm sure would have kept it straightened even if David wouldn't).

Then there's the kitchen - I think I'd completely remodel here too - Country French with an Aga stove and lots of workspace, a small fireplace built into the wall, a cute breakfast nook, some nice hand painted tiles, ahhhh ¢â‚¬¦ wouldn't it be loverly?
