Hello, Dark Shadows Fan,

ShadowGram (SG), The Official Newsletter & News Source for Dark Shadows (DS), announces the following breaking news:

**** DS 40TH ANNIVERSARY HALLOWEEN PARTY -
LOS ANGELES, THURS., OCT. 26

This special evening acknowledged DS' 40 years and celebrated the birthday of DS music composer Bob Cobert. The career of DS creator Dan Curtis was remembered, following his death earlier this year. Fans were encouraged to wear costumes in the Halloween spirit - thanks to all who did join us in costume, and in such a variety too!

Over 300 fans from all parts of California and from other states gathered at the historic Vista Theatre at the intersection of Hollywood and Sunset Boulevards. Activities continued until after midnight.

Brief highlights follow. Details and exclusive behind-the-scenes photos will be published in the upcoming ShadowGram Newsletter, SG #109 print issue.

--- DS guests: Bob Cobert, David Selby, Lara Parker, Kathryn Leigh Scott, Robert Rodan, and Betsy Durkin. Previously-announced guests John Karlen, Jerry Lacy, Chris Pennock, and Roger Davis were unable to attend.

--- Horror genre guests, actresses BARBARA STEELE ("Black Sunday," "The Pit & the Pendulum," and numerous classic 1960s horror films, plus Julia/Natalie in the 1991 DS) and KAREN BLACK ("Trilogy of Terror" and "Burnt Offerings"- both produced/directed by Dan Curtis) were honored as they placed their handprints and signatures in cement in the Theatre's forecourt. Bob Cobert placed his footprint and name in cement there as well.

--- David Selby gave a dramatic recitation of "Shadows of the Night (Quentin's Theme)". Dressed in costume as Quentin, he entered through a thick fog and stood next to a gramophone. Kathryn wore an authentic reproduction of the Josette's wedding gown she wore in the 1970 "House of DS" movie. Lara was wearing a bustle dress which dates in style from the late 1800s; it resembled one in design that she wore as Angelique in the 1897 storyline.

--- A dozen DS melodies were performed live on stage with several layers of modern synthesizers, thanks to musician Jay Asher. Each selection was accompanied by appropriate clips from the original DS and Night of DS.

--- A video tribute to Dan and his career was introduced by reminiscences and comments from Barbara, Karen, and Lara. A pair of movie trailers ("Black Sunday" and "House of DS") then screened, followed by a selection of DS episode bloopers.

--- The Barnabas Collins Look-Alike Contest welcomed half-a-dozen entrants. Audience applause for each awarded Wally Wingert as the winner and he received a number of DS items as his prize.

--- The memorabilia auction included such one-of-a-kind items as the actual wolf's head cane used by Ben Cross in the 1991 NBC primetime DS TV series (winning bid $1250) and the original acetate disc recording by David Selby of "Shadows of the Night" (winning bid $500).

--- Though the hour was late, complimentary autographs were offered by a number of the guests, who also had various books and photos available for purchase. Everyone who attended received 2 special giveaway items: a DS photo and the debuting CD of Bob Cobert's "A Different View." This 13-track CD features his instrumental and lyrical compositions in the big band, jazz, disco, and bossa nova styles, including themes he created for Dan Curtis' 1979 short-lived NBC TV series "Supertrain."

The Cobert "A Different View" CD also will be available as a free bonus item from MPI for customers who purchase the upcoming 8 CD "Dark Shadows Complete Soundtrack Music Collection" boxed set. The set and bonus CD will be available after Dec. 1 from www.mpihomevideo.com or call 1-800-323-0442 weekdays.

SG extends special thanks to Lance Alspaugh and the staff at the Vista Theatre.

The evening event benefited the UCLA Alzheimer's Research Center in memory of Dan & Norma Curtis. Memorial tributes and exclusive photos saluting them are in the current companion SG #107-#108 print issues. The upcoming SG #109 and subsequent print issues will feature details, exclusive guest photos, and more about the Halloween Party at the Vista Theatre. The issue also will showcase the recent DS Festival convention.

"`The Christmas Presence' is due to debut in late November at the same time as the fourth story, 'The Rage Beneath', which guest stars original series actor Robert Rodan (Adam). Robert plays a dangerous new character, Oswlad Gravenor. `In this wonderful story, we have someone who is cunning, devious and forlorn,' Robert enthuses. `He's totally different from Adam, and those kind of stretches are just wonderful for an actor to work with and explore.'"
