SHADOWGRAM OFFICIAL DARK SHADOWS NEWS ONLINE UPDATE # 377
March 4. 2016

Hello, Dark Shadows Fan,

ShadowGram (SG), The Official Newsletter & News Source for Dark Shadows (DS), provides the following news in this ShadowGram Official Dark Shadows News Online Update "Bulletin."

**** CHRIS PENNOCK IN THE INTENSE PLAY “THIRD” THIS WEEKEND

CHRIS (Jeb, Cyrus/John, Sebastian, Gabriel) enthusiastically invites fans in the Los Angeles area to see him as “Jack Jameson” in the play THIRD this weekend – Sat.-Sun., March 5-6, at the Actors Workout Studio in North Hollywood. Performances are Sat. at 8:00 and Sun. matinee at 3:00.

He hopes fans will come: “THIRD is a superb play by the great Wendy Wasserstein….family, academia, politics, war and peace, the tragedy of Alzheimers, and ultimately LOVE! You will enjoy it!”

Chris also shares a scary experience: He was in the play on opening night 2-13. But as he arrived at the theater the next day, his Prius car was severely rear-ended by another car, destroying both vehicles. Chris was taken by ambulance to the hospital with “blood everywhere and a raging headache” after being “thrown into the next seat.” Chris suffered a “mild concussion and laceration” on his forehead with some “back and hip injuries…. They found my understudy (DS’ LISA EICHARDS’ husband) Steve Mandillo walking his dogs and he made it (to the theatre) in time for the big scene in the second act.” Chris adds, “Now, 2 weeks later, I’m still limping around…but I will be BACK on stage Saturday night, March 5!”

LA Times review 2-25: “An ardently feminist college professor accuses a male student of plagiarism, (and) engages in prejudice of the grossest stripe, almost destroying a young life in the process.” THIRD is “a well-paced production” presenting “the pure pleasure” of the play’s message: “A clarion warning against ideological extremism that is particularly apropos now, when any blunder into political incorrectness, however unwitting, can engender viral and virulent outrage.” Chris (and Steve Mandillo) portray the professor’s father, “an appropriately King Lear-like figure slipping into dementia.”

The Actors Workout Studio is at 4735 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood, CA.
Tickets are $20. Info: (800) 838-3006 or third.brownpapertickets.com

Chris was in a previous production of THIRD in late Oct., 2015, at the Beverly Hills Playhouse.

**** MARIE WALLACE GUESTS ON HULU TV SERIES “DIFFICULT PEOPLE”

MARIE (Eve, Mad Jenny, Megan Todd) tells SG she recently “filmed a part in the Hulu series DIFFICULT PEOPLE, produced by Amy Poehler and written by Julie Klausner and starring Julie and Billy Eichner. My character’s name, of all things, is ‘Marie!’ I’m in Episode #210, called ‘High Alert.’ It’s the last show of their second season, so look for it on HULU this summer.” She notes that “Marie” wears elegant clothing, including a glamorous floor-length red dress and fur coat. She adds “Many of my friends have told me it’s their favorite show, so if you haven’t already seen it, go to it!”

Hulu.com summary: “Life is really tough for Julie and Billy, two 30-something aspiring comics living and working in New York City. While their friends and acquaintances move on to find success and love, they continue to struggle with careers and relationships, getting more bitter by the day.” The series’ premise also is described: “As best friends living in NYC, their typical, irreverent behavior lands them in some very awkward situations.”

**** JERRY LACY IN NEW FANTASY / ADVENTURE MOVIE

JERRY (Tony Peterson, Rev. Trask, Gregory Trask, Lamar Trask) has recently been filming scenes for the new independent movie THE NINGYO. He portrays “H. Prestor Sealous” in the fantasy adventure due out this year.

Co-Creator/Director Miguel Ortega and Production Designer Tran Ma describe: “A 1909 period film pilot about ‘cryptozoology.’ The search for mythological or unproven creatures. A Faustian tale about losing oneself in the process of achieving our goals.

“Professor Marlowe finds a piece of a map pointing to the place where the Ningyo, a mythical Japanese creature, could be found. The legend claims whomever consumes its flesh will attain remarkable longevity. He presents the project to his peers, who mock and dismiss him as a fraud. He decides to risk everything and go after the Ningyo on his own in hopes to bring to light what could be one of the greatest contributions to science. What he could not anticipate is that, in his search, he is confronted with a choice that puts the very foundations of his morality to the test.”

They all sound quite good.

First, would a Hulu production eventually make it's way to Netflix?

Second, perhaps I overlooked it, but I don't see the title of the Jerry Lacy film.

Marie=Marie is gorgeous clothes. Yeah!!

Hope C. Pennock is doing well.

To our SoCal cousins, did any of you have opportunity to see this play? Did it end this weekend?
