In Case You're Wondering...

...what this is all about:

Today is the 1000th day that the YaBB/SMF version of the Forum has been up and running - and on October 7th we marked the 6th year since we started the Forum back on VantageNet.

It was certainly touch and go when we first switched to YaBB SP after VN folded because, as I'm sure many of you can well remember , I didn't know the first thing about Perl (the computer language that first system was written in) - not to mention that our host kept shutting us down for consuming too much bandwidth.    But the switch to YaBB SE (written in PHP) proved to be a much better system and a much better fit. And the switch to its successor, SMF, is going to bring with it quite a few features that I'm sure you're all going to like.

But, of course, nothing would be possible without all of you and your support (and your continued patience whenever we try to sort out the inevitable bugs ). Thanks for making these first 1000 days of running our own system as enjoyable as they've been. And an even bigger thank you for your continued support of the Forum in all its various incarnations for the past 6 years. We could have never reached these milestones without all of you. 

It's we who should be thanking you....and Midnite....and dom.

Where else would we find such a welcoming place to share our love of  "Dark Shadows"?  What an incredible stroke of luck it was for me that I "googled" "Dark Shadows" in February of 2002....and found this forum.

Congratulations on your amazing milestone.  Best of luck with the new changes coming to the forum.  But most of all....thank you for having the patience of saints, the stamina of marathon runners and the perverse sense of humor that surely MUST be the thing that keeps you from going crazy doing this......

I'd like to add my own sincere thanks and appreciation to all the Mods.  I remember the V-Net board well.  It was the first board I ever posted anything to and still my favorite place to visit online. I've learned way more than I ever thought I would know about DS, have attended two fests because of information I've received here and met some very nice people.  Here's to the continued success of the best board ever and may we all continue to write, laugh, and be a little nuts around here in good health for a long time!

As the others have said, many thanks to you.  I can't believe how much time you must put into this - and can't imagine how.  Thanks to all the Mods for making all of this possible.

 

And my thanks, too, for all your wonderful work!  Time sure does fly when you're having fun!  I think I found this board way back in '99 or so.  Imagine, five years of having the time of my life because of all of your hard work!

It ain't over till we say it is!

I also have to post my thanks.  Like so many others I stumbled into the V-net and found a wonderful place to visit.  It helped me through some difficutl times escaping into the world of DS.  I also found so very wonderful people who take the time and so much work to put this together for us, not to mention the special people who post here.  I don't get to visit or post as often life seems to be in the way.  You all are the best.
