Visting "Collinsport"
« on: August 03, 2003, 03:18:41 PM »
Yesterday I went on an adventure with my mother and sister.  They dragged me to a sale that only goes on one day a year in Old Lime Ct.  I swore I would buy notbing but I slipped.  After lugging the "stuff" back to the car, lunch was in order.  Essex is not far from where we were.  My sister masterfully got us to the Griswold Inn.  I was so excited lunch at the "Collinsport Inn".  It was beautiful, and the food excellent.
I thought about the epiisodes with Maggie and Vicki conversing there.

We popped into some of the shops and than rode by the "Collins Family" cannery.  Could just invision Roger skipping of to work.  I held back my enthusiasm my mother and sister not quite getting the whole DS addition I have.  O.K. they. they smile and humor me.

I could cerytainly understand why TPTB picked Essex  it is a beautiful town.

Birdie--think I may frame the card I bought of the Inn.

What a great day trip, Birdie! Was there any mention (a plaque, sign, or postcard, etc.) at the Inn that indicated it's exterior was used in the show?

PS - Glad to hear you had a wonderful day.

I am afraid not--no mention of DS at all.  I will go again though.  It was exspecially  nice because it was a spur of the moment thing and a surprise.  In fact I was not keen on the adventure but was going along to be a good sport.  My mom isn't getting any younger and I know this was something she really wanted to do with me and my sister.  They had gone to this sale at the Sudberry House before.

Now I have many cross-stitch projects to do.  Good thing I have DS to watch while stitching.

As a native, I can tell you there is (unfortunately) no such acknowledgement.  But it is still pretty neat to see the building itself...instantly recognizable to any DS fan!

I know just how you feel.  Last year I went with my friend and his daughter to Newport to Salve Regina College and had to go over to see Collinwood.  I was so excited taking pictures and staring at the place.  They both couldn't understand it, but let me have my moment.

It sounded like you had a great time.  Maybe I can try to talk him into taking me there!  ;)
