Port Charles--2nd Vampire Soap Bites the Dust

Port Charles, the second daytime drama to focus mainly on vampires, ends it's network run on Fri Oct 3, 2003, after several years of extremely low ratings.(1.5 was the average, less than half the rating DS had in the pre-Barnabas days)

Just wondering how many others here got hooked on this wildly original show that completely re-wrote vampire legends.

Anyone have any insight into why magic didn't strike twice? PC didn't have DS' emotional, tragic edge, but it was fast paced and VERY sexy! What happened?

PC fans take note: rumor has it the show will live on in Soapnet reruns!

I watched it on-and-off for awhile, but couldn't keep up because of lack of time.  I wish I would've stuck with it (but then I probably would've gone into mourning and be unconsolable following cancellation, the way I was after DS back in '71).

TV Guide had a paragraph lamenting PC's passing.  It said that, despite the low ratings, it was the only soap opera that was "daring".

Just my own opinion....but I think the whole genre of Soap Opera is in trouble....and it's their own fault.

They've all skewed their approach towards a very young audience....who have the attention span of gnats.  That age group is always ready to jump to the 'next hot thing' as fast as it can....and Soap Opera just moves too slowly to keep up.

Sorry, to say the few times I had it on, it did nothing for me.

I guess Port Charles wanted to break that soap-opera method of dragging stuff out for months and years on end.  It was originally designed to run compact, 13-week plots (each with its own subtitle; the vampire storyline was called Port Charles:  Tainted Love), but the vampire thing became rather popular among the small, but growing audience, so they kept it going.  Sounds oddly familiar, doesn't it?
