To Kill or Not to Kill
« on: May 02, 2003, 08:07:12 AM »
Here come the Leviathan contradictions.  I think the reason some people dislike this story is because it has so many inconsistencies.

David reads "the book" and learns that Leviathans must not kill their enemies, so Elizabeth intrinsically knew not to kill Julia.  Fine, it saved Julia, at least for the moment.

But, it was the Leviathans themselves (the "true" Leviathans, not the converted like Barnabas) who demanded that Barnabas kill her just the day before!!!

It's possible the Leviathans placed the most evil, insidious cultic organization in the world in charge of making and revamping the rules found in the book (thus making it so complicated that not even they can keep up with the changes):  the IRS.

Too true Gerard.  I started to laugh at your post, but then I remembered the large check I mailed out on April 15th and started to cry.  I wonder if Barnabas had to file a tax return?

LOL!! That is too funny Julian!

It does make one wonder though what the purpose behind the leviathans actions really are?  Like Josette had mentioned, first they order Barnabas to kill Julia,  then David reads the good book and tells Elizabeth its okay not to kill her!
It sounds like they're a confusing bunch with the only purpose in mind is surviving, ruling the world and taking over.  It also seems they'll lie about anything, even whats suppose to be in their book just to keep the deceit going long enough to get what they want.

It read like a confusing line to begin with (I hate that; you don't know whether the actor mangled it or whether it was in the script that way ;))

My interpretation was that David was subconsciously trying to save Auntie from a "punishment." You'll note that she told him that she wasn't thinking of the book, just of Julia and their friendship and he was the one who insisted she was a "true Leviathan."

Thats a good way of interpeting it Luciaphil, I hadnt really thought of looking at it that way before but it makes sense to me now.   We can see the look of distress sometimes on their faces when faced with an order as to hurt or kill someone that they've especially known for a long time now.

David looked rather upset when Alexander was arguing with Amy over the picture and he did try many times to talk Amy into just giving Alex the photo back.  With his Aunt Elizabeth I could see the same distressful look when she first told him about their plans for Julia.  You can see that they still have their own beliefs and feelings still intact, which is good thank goodness, but at the same time they're trying to be good followers of the leviathans, who it seems have no feelings at all.
