Carolyn's and Vicki's gowns have zippers up the back. So much for clothes from another century!  [ghost_grin] The fashions correspond to the dates we have seen so far on the tombs in the mausoleum, about 1820 or so--for now.

For a brief moment, out of Carolyn's hearing, Victoria wistfully murmurs, Victoria Winters, Victoria Winters.

Barnabas actually compliments Willie on how well the party preparations are going. But Burke is extremely upset that Vicki is going as Josette Collins.

One of the classic conversations of DS: Later, Vicki comes to the Old House and reminds Willie that the party is to show off his restoration work.  Willie mutters a thank-you. Will you be there? Vicki asks. I’ll be around, he answers vaguely. Will you be wearing a costume? Vicki wants to know. Mr. Collins wants me to, Willie replies in just above a mumble, but I feel a little funny about it. Vicki observes kindly, You could do with some fun. You never smile. I haven’t got much to smile about, Willie answers brusquely. Nonplussed, Vicki falls back on praising the fantastic job he’s done. You deserve to be very happy and very proud, she insists. Willie finally lets himself open up just enough to say with genuine sincerity, Thank you. That’s very nice of you. Then he goes on: A lot of people don’t get what they deserve--and [bitterly] a lot of people get what they don’t deserve. That's an interesting philosophy, Willie, Barnabas observes as he enters the drawing room, but I'm dedicated to seeing that people get what _I_ think they deserve.

Barnabas tells Willie to take a well-deserved break, but Willie doesn't leave unt il he hears Vicki say that she can stay for only a moment. But that's all she needs to persuade Barnabas to invite Burke to come as Jeremiah.

Please, please, somebody tell me why anybody would choose Burke over Barnabas!  Note: for once, today I could see why someone would choose Vicky.  She was so nice as she pulled Burke to the door!

There was more of people making a big deal over the costume business.  It seems very silly, but things are different in the Dark Shadows universe.  The residents of that universe always try to pretend that the supernatural doesn't exist - but inside themselves, they know better.  Wearing Josette’s dress, Vicky starts to feel she could be Josette.  Whenever I've watched these episodes before, I've thought: “Barnabas didn't actually do anything, did he?” but now I see things were happening.

I like to know why Vicki felt it was such a big deal to have Burke at the party....he clearly didn't want to go and was actually willing to accept that she wanted to go and they would just have to wait another night to go out for dinner. Burke isn't the history fan that Vicki is, not by a long-shot, and she should have considered that while she might have a ball at Barnabas' party, Burke would be bored stiff, and uncomfortable dressed in clothing from 2 centuries ago.

I got the feeling that Willie would be just as happy NOT going to the party because he senses the party isn't going to turn out as Barnabas thinks it will. Actually it makes sense since
in the 1795 storyline we never see one Willie lookalike character in there.
. Who knows, maybe there was one but he never made an appearance on the show.

Barnabas really doesn't want Burke at his party, I can't believe that Vicki couldn't pick up on that. And really since Burke doesn't want to go and Barnabas wasn't particularly thrilled with inviting him, Vicki should have just given up the idea. But no she of course has to keep nagging until Barnabas gives in. Oh well, Barnabas you can't win them all.

Vickie looks beautiful in the dress.  It shimmers on my screen. I wonder what color it was.  This is the first party for Elizabeth in 18 years.  As was previously mentioned, it is only the family she sees day and Barnabas, but at least she is getting out of the house, but then she's been to the old house before.
Carolyn's dress looks like an old bedspread.  She says Vickie deserves to be a Collins. Victoria Collins and then Vickie's says no Josette Collins.  They have at least carried this plot point over froml the Laura days.
Barnabas reveals that Jeremiah  was his enemy, but there is no clear indication of how they are related only that he was unable to destroy him presumably before he was chained.
you know there's a whole wing that's closed off all the time; the west wing, I go there lots of times

I suspect Vicki's gown is white or pale cream. Barnabas says it's the one that Josette is wearing in the portrait, and that one is white. However, the portrait gown has long sleeves and Vicki's has little puffy ones. That shimmer is from the satin weave. Very nice.
