Go Elizabeth!!! Free at last! Never has Elizabeth looked so regal as in this supreme crisis of her life.

I remember those all-over lace dresses like the one Carolyn wears. But I never did have one of those little beaded clutch bags.

And unfortunately I also remember those horrible, horrible, shapeless gauze tent dresses in pastel flower prints! Nothing could have persuaded me to wear one.

Great moment by JB when Vicki tries to tell her it isn't too late. It was too late the day I met Paul Stoddard, Elizabeth answers hopelessly, too late the day I married him, too late the day I met Jason McGuire.

In the drawing room, there’s no sign of the token cannery workers and their wives or of the leading lights of Collinsport whom Jason wanted to invite, nor is there any sign of the Champagne and caviar that he demanded.

What was it that made Elizabeth decide to free herself from Jason's merciless grip? Hearing the judge talk about her first wedding? Remember how awful her marriage had been?

Maybe it was because she suspected that it was very likely Jason would continue sucking money out of her until she was bone-dry, thusly leaving absolutely NO financial security to her daughter and nephew whatsoever, that Elizabeth finally said enough was enough. Or maybe she was just finally tired of carrying the guilt she had been carrying on her shoulders for so many years.

I never believed, and still don't that Elizabeth would have thrown Carolyn out despite what Jason said, but I can see why Carolyn might have thought she would. After all her mother allowed Jason to move into Collinwood and also allowed his no-good hoodlum pal Willie to come crawling into the house. Her mother wouldn't kick Willie out even after learning he harrassed Carolyn to the point that she had to pull a gun on him, then she allows Jason to worm his way into the family business, and now into marriage. Despite the fact that they found nothing in the basement room when Elizabeth allowed her and Roger to poke around, Carolyn at least still believes that her mother is not marrying Jason of her own choice and is determined to do something about it....

Loved the scene between Elizabeth and Vicki. They really did have a mother/daughter like rapport about them. Of course
many of us viewers feel they really WERE mother and daughter
but that topic has already been discussed many times.

I figure what made Elizabeth break for freedom was that she just couldn't get the "I do" out of her throat.

I've commented before that Jason jumped the gun when he threatened Carolyn.  It's not smart of him to let her know how intimidating he can be, and thereby give her an idea of what he might have been putting her mother through.  I don't know if such thoughts went through her head - but they should have.

And Jason wasn't being fair when he said he hadn't had one nice word out of Carolyn.  She was nice to him when they first met, and she was nice to him when she asked him what her father was like.  But of course Jason has no interest in being fair.

Lydia, I think you're right about Jason threatening Carolyn. She had more than enough motive to try murdering him, what with his threats to her and what she could see he was putting her mother through.

Afternoon weddings were very fashionable, then as now. I'm sure Barnabas was invited. And of course an afternoon wedding would have meant that Barnabas would have to claim business in Bangor.  [ghost_cheesy]

This is one of my all-time favorite eps.!

Why did Carolyn wait so long to rifle through Jason's belongings. Why hadn't David. The idea that Jason has a locked diary a teen girl would have is interesting.  Carolyn is the seen alone and drunk after Jason informs her she must move out.  The bartender actually speaks. I like how the Judge uses mister for everyone except Devlin.  He must know Elizabeth well as he is on a first name basis with her. He was at her first wedding and in his tastelessness prattles on and on about it.  "I killed Paul Stoddard and that man was my accomplice." great line and since there were no witnesses, Elizabeth should have blamed Jason. Who would  believe him and with her connections shed probably be on probation at the most, but her guilt would prevent her from that, but it would be satisfying to see Jason get the chair for a bungled blackmail plot.
