When I lived in Alaska, there was a constant debate about dumping daylight savings time. I mean, what daylight was there to "save"? At summer's peak, the sun would "set", meaning just dip below the horizon at 2:00 a.m. (there were summer midnite baseball leagues, as well as people golfing at the witching hour), creating a dusk effect, and then start to rise about an hour later. But the business people wanted DST retained, because that would cause a five-hour difference with the east coast instead of four, and for those who had to make phone calls or do tele-conferencing, that would mean having to conduct work as early as four in the morning, so they would win out in the debate.
Of course, with regards to when DS aired, that depended on when it aired on the east coast. If it was at 11:00 there, it would be on in Alaska at seven. When it would be moved to nine, it would come on at five a.m. That's why I got into the habit of always taping it and watching it later on.
