His subservience to Petofi seems to have sexual undertones to me, if we want to apply real-life psychology to the characters.
As was mentioned earlier in this thread, this particular dynamic could be seen in the Barnabas-Willie relationship. I've always felt that it existed in the Jason-Willie relationship and the Nathan-Noah relationship as well.
Actually, I find the Nathan subplots with Noah and Suki to border on farce at times. It's not hard to imagine an episode with Nathan trying to hide Noah and Suki from Millicent, replete with slamming doors, double-takes, pratfalls, and other broad physical gags.
