At least everyother episode Judith had a new frock. . .wow I'd love to see a copy of Joan Bennett's contract. ."And Miss Bennett will have a new, tailored outfit every 3rd episode.  She will only reuse an outfit twice in the course of the show's run. . .  The rest of the actresses get 3 dresses which they'll wear into the ground until they're threadbare .. ."

This is a question I've been asking for a long time.

I do recall during the 1968 storyline, Parker as Cassandra had a veritable rainbow of new clothes (all in shocking neon) and Bennett was roughing it in a lot of dresses from the previous year.

I'll take a stab at guessing about Judith's wardrobe in 1897. Maybe it establishes her station. One would expect a woman of her stature to have an extensive (and fancy) wardrobe, whereas you wouldn't expect the servants, governess', or a subordinate grand daughter for that matter to have such a splendid array. Could also be a way to show that now that she has money up the wahzoo she is enjoying it - ie. spending it on herself making up for a lifetime of subordination. I can't think of any other female character presently on the show who's station would warrant an extensive (and high-class) wardrobe. Her absence at times is usually explained by her being in Collinsport - maybe she is at the dressmakers viewing and ordering the latest fashions...

Hmmmm.....Collinsport, Maine.  Not exactly the first place that jumps to mind when considering fashion...much less the LATEST fashion!

Once Judith got her hands on all that dough, she should have shut up Collinwood, shipped her brothers off to bachelor quarters in town, boughtt a first class ticket to New York City,  AND booked passage on the first thing sailing to Paris.

Then, of course, once she HAD such a wardrobe it would have been a complete waste to take it back to Collinsport.  A year's Grand Tour of the continent would have made much more sense.  At least she might have been seduced by an Italian Count or an English Lord instead of that loathsome, vile, twisted excuse for a man, Trask.

I'm sure that when Joan agreed to take this role, a major part of the deal was to showcase her striking beauty and lovely figure. All her characters either had money or came into it in the storyline. She certainly has an extravagant wardrobe in 1897. 1795 wasn't too shabby either. In her present day role as Liz, I remember seeing her in a gorgeous black(I think) dressing gown with jewel-studded belt-------several times. I sure would love to have had one like that!!

I do agree that after Judith comes into the "loot" her wardrobe substantially multiplies. .i've been waiting for Quentin or Edward to make a smart remark about it. . .prior to Grandmamamama's death, i think she only wore a black dress that i recall, very somber.
