It's nice that you get summer vacation from school, Lindsey. Here in Nevada, there's year round school. My daughter's last day of school is August 14, then she goes back to school on August 26. Hardly a vacation!

Really Cheryl?? That's just awful!! :(  I never heard of such a thing. Must be terrible for the poor kids to go to school in the summer like that, but I bet they're all pretty smart though!  ;)

I know alot of states have different regulations regarding the beginning of the new school year. Here in New York the kids get out for summer vacation near the end of June and then school resumes again in September right after Labor day.

Thanks for the advice ProfStokes! I know you did very well in school, graduating second in your class.  ;D And, not to mention, with an awesome speech. As of now, I am first in my class, with a few others. Talk about stressful.  ::) By the way, ProfStokes, what college are you attending?

WOW!! Good job! LOL Our HS is soo big, like 4200 + students @ the end of LAST YEAR, they don't figure out stuff like that until Senior year .... because they change so much, I guess. And they're still building more houses, too. ::) Just what we need .... less trees, more people  :P

And good luck w ur AP classes .... I know what you mean, I'm taking AP Eng, Ec, and then honors everything else [cuz AP isn't offered]. Bah!!

I'm glad I had the summer off when I was in school. Yes, they are smart. My daughter can do her homework without my help now. She can read and circle all the right words, and starting to write sentences. She is starting first grade this month. Maybe she'll take after my oldest brother who's gifted. They skipped him up a couple of grades at that age. I always envied him. He hardly ever had to crack a book, and got straight A's.

Goodness Daphne! I could never imagine going to a school that big. We have about 900 in ours. My class has 260 students. I consider it a good size-small enough that you know everyone's names in your class, but big enough to have separate groups of friends. Good luck with your AP classes too!

Being a contender for valedictorian is quite an honor, Lindsey.  I can imagine how hard you've worked to get there, but please don't let the pressure get to you; it isn't worth it.  I sincerely wish you a happy year; good luck with everything!

Community college.  ;D  It's soooo much easier than being in high school, and I'm much more relaxed than I used to be.  I'm really not cut out to handle anything much more strenuous than what I already went through.

Yikes! Your school is even fuller than mine.  We had about 3,700 students; some of the classes were so overcrowded (Italian 1 had 56 kids  ::)) that there weren't enough desks, chairs, or books to go around.  ('Home of the irates' indeed! :o)

My best wishes for the coming year to you too, Daphne.  It sounds like you also have a heavy schedule; just please don't overdo it.

OMG, 56 kids in one class? Sheesh! We have a lot of kids, but our school is also really big. It's like the size of a mini-college. So this school year, we're supposed 2 have like 35 kids in a class. Or around there. But 56 is just crazy! And thanx for the luck. I don't mind taking hard classes, I honestly don't consider them all that hard. And, contrair to how it may appear, I'm a very focused person when I have to be. Not always hyper. LOL  :o ::) ;D

Good luck to those of you graduating/finishing up high school or college! I graduated from college in December 2001 --- four of the best years of my life so far!

Just want to repeat 3 things I told my cousin not too long ago, re: starting college:

1) PACE YOURSELF

2) Sign a degree plan ASAP, get a copy of of it, and keep track of the courses you need yourself. It makes it much easier when you need to talk with your degree plan counselor and/or advisor. It also makes it easier to register for courses each semester.

3) If possible take the courses that look the most difficult first, so if you have to drop or repeat you won't be rushed.

Hee hee, "lecture" over.

;D

True. I still have to get up early though, 6 a.m. That part is not fun. Other than that it's great!  :)
