Just Slightly Off Topic: Background Music
« on: July 26, 2002, 08:47:05 PM »
http://www.krimson-news.com/radio.shtml

Since we have recently upgraded to cable modem [wow what a difference speed makes ~ and you always heard it was size! ;)]  I have been able to check out several streaming audio sites and I must recommend the above link for anyone who has high speed access [pardon the pun]  for background music while visiting the spooky sites, the DS forum, reading Mark's story, or just for some really cool, strange, dark, progressive stuff for the ears! As I type this the 'radio' is playing a cut called 'reclaimation scream' and it is really cool. [and free] The 'station' is based out of a King Crimson related site, but they play a lot of other independent stuff, as well as more mainstream prog things, like NIN, and Bowie/Eno.  Sometimes its a little frantic, but sometimes very ambient [thats what I like![smokn]]so check it our more than once. If you like 'weird' eerie music, tune in.  I am hooked, thought some of you might like it.

Ringo -- Just connected into this, and what should they be playing but UK, which I was really into in the late 70s. I've checked out shitloads of the Live365 stations, but their sound quality is usually marginal at best, as this is; it's nice to hear the stuff, though, so I may bookmark this channel.

I've heard a fair amount of King Crimson's most recent, and it sounds pretty good. I was a big fan in the mid-70s, but after college I didn't keep up with them at all. I have music streaming from one source or another just about any time I'm on the computer; the cable is great for that. I generally put on Listen Rhapsody or Spinner, both of which have decent, eclectic selections, with nice sound quality. I've had loads of streaming sources at one time or another, but lately have limited myself to these two.

Ever check out any of the 4AD bands from the early 90s? Some great, haunting stuff there. This Mortal Coil, Xymox, Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins... beautiful backgrounds for spooky stuff.

I was a big fan of King Crimson in my highschool daze, especially 1981. My fave song of theirs is "Sleepless". I remember "Elephant Talk" very well, funny song! I used to get King Crimson mixed up with Wall Of Voodoo, in the 80's. The two bands sounded so much alike.
