Okay, here's the rest of the first storyline. He stops his greatgrandpa from writing the letter and goes back to the future to find Callanwind abandoned, in ruined shambles.
So Francis talks to the spirit, who sends him back to the 1960s, saying that all will be revealed. He gets there and finds a party in progress at Callanwind. He asks why. A young man tells him that the family is leaving the haunted old home. Francis goes back into the future, summons the ghost of his mother out of a ragged portrait in his room, and goes to the 60s with her. A hypnotism expert, she performs an eerie mass hypnotism on the people of Callanwind to make them stay. Francis and his mother go back to the present where all is well. They have a teary goodbye as she goes back into the land of the dead.
