My personal recommendation re:Buffy is to get seasons 1 and 2 on DVD before trying to catch up on FX (which is currently showing season 3) or just wait for FX to cycle back to the beginning. This show does the best job with continuity I've ever seen, but it is also the least forgiving of new viewers. Many of the jokes and references allude to earlier events, and previous developments are never, ever explained again once they've occurred. Just my 2 cents.
