DS Reimagined (Maybe?)
« on: June 23, 2009, 06:22:25 AM »
Battlestar Galactica had a brilliant re-imagining and now another series is getting the same treatment.  I'm speaking (or writing) of V: The Series.  True, both The Bionic Woman and The Night Stalker crashed and burned but that is no reason to believe that such re-imaginings are doomed.

Elsewhere, I've noted my hope that Johnny Depp's rendition of Barnabas Collins might inspire a new television series, not as a retread of the original nor a "next generation" but rather a genuine re-imagining.  Ideally, a new series could be a more-or-less sequel to the movie (and btw, if Twilight and CW's The Vampire Diaries make enough money, methinks the odds shoot up on this possibility).

Now, assuming this happy scenario comes to pass, it really would be too much to suppose Depp will return to series television.  Which brings up the question of who might be cast as Barnabas?  More, who might end up in all the major roles?

For the sake of argument, let us list the probable regulars of such a re-imagined Dark Shadows and speculate over who we ourselves (given the power) might cast in said roles...

Barnabas Collins
The Governess (either Victoria Winters or Maggie Evans -- your pick)
The Governess's love interest (Burke Devlin, Jeff Clark, etc.)
Roger Collins
Elizabeth Collins Stoddard
David Collins
Carolyn Stoddard
Mrs. Johnson
Willie Loomis
Dr. Julia Hoffman
Angelique Collins

For an hour-long weekly series, that seems like a good-sized cast.  Eleven in all.  Myself, were the choice my own, I'd air the show on cable where rather than sinking to the lowest common denominator (which, while not inevitable, is often the fate of network shows) a program can be aimed at discerning adults.

Like True Blood or Dexter...  [ghost_smiley]
