My own sense of it would be that Roger would at least claim to be a fiscal conservative and vote accordingly, preferring a man of "proven worth" to an "unknown academic who happens to be quite charming". But although snide and arrogant, I don't see him as much of a social conservative, taking much more of a "live and let live" attitude while feeling perfectly free to make fun of people doing what he viewed as pointless/silly things. Or not. So I think he'd've gone for McCain.
