Those Darn Stagehands
« on: June 15, 2002, 03:32:41 AM »
Only on Dark Shadows will a stage hand suddenly appear duing an intense scene. I give credit to John Karlen for keeping it together, even though I thought he nearly lost it when he mentioned getting the "willies"
:o
I must go. However, I shalln't be long.
 Good day everyone!

There is an absolutely hysterical blooper involving a stagehand in the 1897 storyline -- Evan Hanley is performing a incantation (either raising Minerva Trask from the dead, or sending her back), and the mood is supposed to be quietly suspenseful as he recites the passages in his melodious voice...all of a sudden, you hear the clackety-clack-clack of off-screen feet running and you hear someone (the stagehand, presumably) mutter a loud "Jesus!" as a barely discernable shadow goes whoosh! across the screen...

Humbert's eyes shifted a little at the disturbance, but he carried on with his recitation without missing a beat.

Cheers,

Linda

The worst for me was when Barnabas was just about to strangle Angelique in the Masoleum and suddenly you see a stagehand stand up in the backround. This was such an intense scene and the S.H.'s appearance really ruined it.

I thought John Karlen really played it off cool today during his scene in the old house basement when the stagehand appeared. I give these actors alot of credit for not cracking up and being able to go forward with their lines. :)

The one with John Karlen probably didn't fluster the actor; they were no doubt accustomed to having stage hands all around them and weren't able to discern whether or not they were accidentally in the frame unless they went back and saw the tape later.

I agree about the Angelique/Barnabas scene you mentioned above. That was such an important scene they really should have gone back and reshot it - the same applies to the Evan Hanley scene.
