Missing MASSIVE DARK SHADOWS COLLECTION! Any clues?
« on: June 15, 2002, 10:45:00 AM »
I've been doing research, looking through old Dark Shadows fan magazines and came across two very interesting items, that are of incredible interest to me and could be of great use in the restoration:

1- circa 1989 a STEPHEN G. KNAPP of KNAPP BOOKS in Pennsylvania was auctioning off a large collection of DS Memorabilia, most notably 370 (!) HODS slides and 7 NODS slides. This is probably the largest collection of HODS color slides ever amassed at one time. There are probably less than 150 currently held by DCP, Jim, KLS etc. and they probably include never-before-seen COLOR shots of long lost scenes! If anyone out there has any leads on who might have bought these, please let me know!

2- is a set of probable gigantic proportions, owned by a collector named SCOTT YOUNG. Here's the full info, as I included in my website member newsletter a few days ago:

We've been trying to track down DS fan SCOTT YOUNG for a while now and have had little luck. He was last based in California, but has been incommunicado and out of fandom for several years.

During the 80's he was proposing a feature DARK SHADOWS movie to Dan Curtis, which was documented in a 'Files' magazine. I want to interview him about that project for the Dan Curtis book I'm working on, but most importantly, he is reputed to have the greatest collection of original slides and photos from NIGHT OF DARK SHADOWS, most likely extending to hundreds of images, including coverage of long lost scenes which have never been seen before. It's crucially important that we find him; he's literally the only remaining source for photo coverage of these cut scenes. As you've probably read, we're hoping to reconstruct some of the lost scenes using still photographs and a re-recorded audio track. Without the appropriate photos, this cannot happen.

Also, Scott Young advertised in several fanzines back in the 70's and 80's. He offered '8x10 color photos from original NODS production slides' and sent a listing of them for a SASE.

Does anyone out there have one of these lists? It's a tangible list of tantalizing lost stills and I'd love to get a copy of it. It'd help give an idea of some of the stills his collection included, and would be an important acquisition.

Please E-Mail me if you have any information on the stills list or Scott Young. We'll happily pay him a reward for the use of the stills and he can keep the originals. (Those of you who have generously lent me materials, can certainly vouche for the promptness and care with which materials are returned and the truth of that statement.)
