Count Petofi's hand
« on: June 07, 2008, 02:07:39 AM »
Since Dark Shadows the Beginning has been out on DVD, I decided to start watching DS from the beginning. I have noticed from the first few episodes, that the box that will contain Count Petofi's hand in much later episodes sits upstairs on a table in Collinwood in the hallway. I have a hard time remembering how Count Petofi's hand gets into this box, Does anyone remember how this box became used as the container for the Count Petofi's hand?

Many props were used over and over again, or so it seems.  There's that afghan that showed up in more places than lost luggage on a United Airlines flight.

Hi JS,

The Hand was in the box when Magda first showed it to Barnabas, upon her return from her trip to Boston in 1897.

Thank you G, you have a great memory or did you cheat by watching that episode? [ghost_grin] I would have cheated but I only have 4 sets of the Beginning and now two in the Barnabas collection, but I'm working on it. I won't quit until I have all 32 sets. [ghost_tongue2]

Petofi's Hand is the biggest single memory of DS for me from childhood.    That big old bone sticking out......!!

When did we last see the box in 1897?    Was it when
the dead man's hand was passed off to the gypsies as Petofi's?     Was it just thrown on the ground by Johnny, and was that near Collinwood?    Could it then have made its way to Collinwood in the 1960s?
I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but I distinctly remember seeing the box for the hand of petofi sitting in Collinwood in a hallway in 1968, during the Adam/Dream Curse storyline. It seems funny that the box went from being an ancient relic (I believe Magda talked about the value of the box itself) to merely being a fixture in a dark hallway of Collinwood.

Yes, I definately remember Petofi using that afghan toward the end of the 1897 flashback, and it was also at Maggie's house (perhaps she found it there when she moved in, since apparently C.D. Tate's house = Maggie's house)
