Two minor things that I enjoy on Dark Shadows are opening voiceovers by Grayson Hall and exterior shots of the Old House. I got both today.
Adam may be super-intelligent but he is also super-obtuse. He knows that Barnabas is in love with Vicky because Barnabas has said so. He knows that Vicky is in love with Jeff because Vicky has said so. Therefore Vicky is not in love with Barnabas even though Barnabas is in love with her. And yet Adam seems to think that he's the only being in the world who is not loved.
I really liked the action involving Stokes today. I liked how Julia would not rule out Stokes as the evil genius behind Adam. Then the conversation between Stokes and Barnabas was interesting. Stokes accused Barnabas of holding back information, but I was surprised at how freely Barnabas admitted to Stokes that Adam was an artificial man and that Barnabas had been involved in his creation. Just because Stokes already knew this does not mean that Barnabas was obliged to admit it - so Stokes got more out of Barnabas than he might have expected. And finally, the conversation between Stokes and Adam was absorbing. Adam has turned away from Stokes, who took him in, fed him, and taught him. At least Adam was willing to listen to what Stokes had to say (whereas he will not listen to anything Barnabas has to say) but Adam rejects it.
Poor Stokes. At this point in the series, the person to whom he is most human and giving is Adam, and now Adam refuses what Stokes tries to give.
Oh, one more thing - Julia's business with the glove while Adam was talking was perfect.
