The DS Novel That Wasn't...The Labyrinth of Souls
« on: May 30, 2002, 04:29:46 AM »
Ok, I'm gonna put something up for those of you who enjoyed DREAMS OF THE DARK and anything else of mine you were gracious enough to read.

Back when the future of the novel series had not been dashed by HarperCollins, I came up with a proposal for a new DS novel titled THE LABYRINTH OF DREAMS, with the possibility that Beth Massie would again co-write it. I composed a partial outline and actually wrote the first three chapters. Now that the chances of future books are slim, this thing's sitting here without a home.

So, what I'll do is post the first chapter for a couple of weeks, the second chapter after that, and finally the third. It'll leave you hanging, of course, but I might be willing to clue anyone who's interested to the possible ending by way of the original outline. ;)

I'm not advertising this site anywhere else and would appreciate it if others don't either. But you're free to read and enjoy it -- or not, whichever is appropriate. Any comments are welcome -- positive or negative. Don't worry, I'm a writer, and I've been trashed by the best and the worst of them. Never be bashful about speaking your mind.

If you don't like it, I promise I won't hurt you much.

So, here ya go....

You've got my attention! [thumb]
Excellent first chapter full of descriptive sentences that gave the over all feeling of Quentin's dread at returning to Collinwood. I liked how you described Julia--very much on the mark, so to speak.

Don't make us wait too long for that next chapter, Mark.

The first chapter is great! It really captures the feel of the original series.  If only some publisher would pick up the DS novel series.  I would love to see this story be completed.

Looking forward to the next chapter!

OK, I have to admit I was skeptical. Usually I find "sequels" or "continuations" of a work done by someone who was not originally involved to be either pale imitations of the original or outright disasters.  I have to say, however, that I really enjoyed reading this chapter.  It captures the essence of the characters and is also very atmospheric in its descriptions.  I'm looking forward to reading more.

I'm going to print it off (already got it bookmarked) and then sit back with a nice vodka martini and enjoy.  We're suppose to get more thunderstorms here, so I'm going to get psyched for just the right mood!
