Julia in the Dream Curse
« on: May 19, 2002, 03:28:59 AM »
Hey all! Did everyone see Julia's Dream Curse? When she opened that last door and revealed the skeleton bride, I just died of laughter! I just kept rewinding and watching it over and over again. My mom was laughing at me the whole time. Grayson Hall just overacted that scene so much, yet it seemed to work! :) That screaming and jumping back was priceless!

-Lindsey

Hmmm, I think I want to go find that episode again on my tape and show my sister.Shealways talks about how much she hates Julia, but I know that Julia is actually her favorite, though she won't admit it.  ;D

The bride was just in Julia's dream isn't it?  Is this some an insight into how Julia truly  views or fears marriage??  8)

In another thread I commented that the dream curse has a relative scaryness depending on the dreamer. When Maggie had the dream, the skull behind the first door was a terrifying spectre, but when Julia opens the same door it's like, "Oh, someone left their skull in the closet."
"Aren't you Joan Bennett?"
"I used to be."

Dear Lindsey,

Concerning Julia Hoffman's dream curse encounter, I once saw a videotape of a Dark shadows Festival that was held in beautiful, downtown Newark, NJ (I'm not kidding!) during the mid 1980's.

Anyway, during the DS skits, there was this guy who came dressed in drag: white doctor/nurse's uniform, white sneakers, a shockingly red wig, and a ton of make-up on his/her face.  The guy looked liked Julia Hoffman's twin sister when he squinted his eyes and pursed his lips.

So, Robert Cobert's eerie "Dream Curse" music starts to play, and this "guy" starts holding his hands up in front of his face, and proceeds to say (in a voice just like the good doctor's), "Oh, Barnabas, where are you?  Oh, Barnabas, please help me!"  I'm telling you, the audience was in hysterics.  This guy sounded more like Julia Hoffman than the great Grayson Hall ever did! I have to say that this was probably the funniest, most inspired impersonation of a Dark Shadows character that I have ever seen.

Every time I watch this side-splitting performance on my vcr, I have to keep from peeing in my pants, it's like watching the late, great Dick Shawn as Lorenzo Saint DuBois in Mel Brooks' classic comedy, "The Producers."

Sincerely,

Bob the Bartender, a Mel Brooks junkie.

I think Julia fears ending up like Josette, and that's why she thinks Barnabus doesn't show any affection 2wards her. Like, if Barney hadn't lived thru Angie's curse, then he would be interested in her, but since he did, he's not; and if he were, she's afraid she'd end up like Josette, because Angie's curse included that anyone who loved him would die. So in her own mind, Julia's taken Barnabus's fear and made it her own in order to alleviate the pain of rejection she constantly recieves from Barney, so she kind of rationalizes it away....

HMM sounds deep, ehh?

And why is Maggie afraid of skulls? What'd I miss? I can see y she's afraid of the music.....but wouldn't she c Willie standing there or something?

I agree, Julia's Dream Curse sequence was a good one. When she screams she puts her heart and soul into it. She's a trip!
