It felt sort of weird today, going from the opening scene to the opening titles. At this point in the series, Dark Shadows is associated with supernatural stuff, so that's what I think of when I see the titles - but the opening scene was very interesting without any help from supernatural afterburners. It almost seemed gratuitous when the witchcraft got thrown in at the end of the episode – but I don't suppose Angelique felt that way. Witchcraft is her answer to all of her problems. I was thinking that it seemed like an addiction, until I remembered the wizard world in the Harry Potter books, in which electricity is what Muggles use because they don't have magic. So witchcraft is what Angelique uses because she doesn't have...what?
As I watched the confrontation between Joshua and Angelique, I thought about the storylines in which
Spoiler:Louis Edmonds's character was in love or infatuated with Lara Parker's character.
This led me to thinking, around the end of the scene, that these two particular characters would be very well-suited to each other. Imagine Angelique using her voodoo to advance Joshua's business plans!
We saw some more excellent craftwork from Angelique today, with the use of the cute little coffin. She could have made it a simple rectangular box, but the added oblique angles were the sign of an artist dedicated to her work. That is, unless Ben Stokes (like young George Washington) did it with his little hatchet.
