I do like the fact that we are seeing this type of a relationship played out on the show. I find it refreshing. It is such a departure from all the seriousness of the previous years, it is like a novelty almost. The same with Carl and his "absurdness".

Quentin's & Jamison's loving (familial) relationship plays out quite genuinely on the surface but I can't get past Quentin using Jamison the way he is and labeling it as true affection. I don't know how to say it professionally but I think that if you truly love someone you wouldn't use them to do bad things to suit your own selfish (and wrong) desires, regardless of whether it hurts them directly or not. If you truly love someone, you leave them out of your wrongdoings. I think from Quentin's own point of view, he genuinely loves his nephew. But I don't think so. Not really.

I took it that he was commenting that  the mercenary nature of the two enemies would lead them to unite the moment it would be to their benefit to do.

...as world history has proven, time and time again.

I thought that if enough people like THIS, then maybe I will try and put a book together.  Can't tell what's funny and what isn't, ya know?
(Anything is funny to me at 5 in the morning before I've even been to bed).  [silly]

These things (whatever they are) are still being sold today. I've seen them recently (and in years past) in Neiman Marcus and Horchow catalogs, though much more elaborate in their design. Neiman Marcus calls their version, "The Confidante".

My favorite piece of "new" furniture on the show is that three seater contraption in the drawing room at Collinwood. I first spotted it eons ago in the green border DS trading cards but I thought it was S-shaped. I never realized until I saw it the other day that it sat three (even though I have seen this portion of the 1897 time-line once before). I got a kick out of watching Edward trying to maneuver himself properly into his seat after Judith and Quentin had chosen their spots. (Shades of Moe, Larry, & Curly, lol!)

I want one!

Who do you suppose is the Daniel that grandmama "saw" in her room while Edward was visiting? And Does anyone have a clue as to why she would be afraid "to go" with him in particular?

One more; grandmama babbled on about being told the secret, wanting to live in the old house, etc. Did her ramblings help us at all figure anything out? I wasn't feeling well, (no pity please :)) and it was all I could do to get thru the episodes before collapsing into bed for most of the day. What was said is now all a big jumble in my head. (Not that I am ever able to keep the facts straight, well or not, lol).

Thanks in advance,
Dom

Good Question, Adra! It never even occurred to me. Both parents of Edward, Judith, Quentin, & Carl must be of the 1840 brood, and obviously both dead. I can't wait to see the answer, and how the DS writers screwed this up too.

My daughter and I were watching Monsterfest on AMC, they were showing some of the "Halloween" horror movies.

Your daughter must have nerves of steel, Cheryl. I can barely sit through these new generation slasher films without frequent trips out of the room, head-turns away from the TV, squinting, or holding my hand over my eyes!

Today her grandson chokes and threatens her but when Judith comes in and interrupts, Grandmama does not tell on Quentin.

That's odd, isn't it?  Maybe she is trying to protect Quentin but why?

The only plausible explanation I can come up with is that she knew Quentin was just trying to scare the secret out of her, and that he wouldn't actually kill her.

And I'd like to know; if the secret is passed down from generation to generation, why wasn't Liz told from her father about the secret?

Current Talk '02 II / Re: Barnabas in 1897

Do the writers eventually explain why they changed history by having Sandor open his coffin.  Obviously it never happened in 1897 because Barnabas was chained in his coffin for almost 200 years and was never released from his coffin in the 1800's.

I'm not sure if my reply is exactly answering your question. But my guess is that the writers are having Barnabas change history. While in his coffin he was thinking that he had to use his powers to have someone release him from his coffin as Willie did in the 60s. Basically he used the same approach he did in the future - someone's greed. Like Willie was on a search for jewels, Barnabas could sense (I guess) Magda's greed to steal the family's hidden jewels. So he "planted" the vision of the mausoleum and secret room in Magda's crystal ball, resulting in her eventually sending Sandor to retrieve them, thus freeing Barnabas into the world of 1897, and changing history from that point on.

No, two separate incidents.  Initially, he told Barnabas about when it first happened.  I think shortly after college.  By this time it's been happening to him, but I think he said it was the first time anyone else saw it happen.

Thanks Josette!
