Can't think of any cogent reasoning as to why (too tired), but I guess I just disagree about Rachel.  IMHO she's an interesting character who wasn't that well written, but wasn't the self involved hussy depicted in this thread.

I'm still with you on this, Cassandra B. And no amount of cogent reasoning could change my mind. Speaking for myself, it's all a matter of how one wants to perceive the character. I'm willing to give Rachel the benefit of the doubt. I wouldn't expect her to act any differently under the circumstances than she has. Put yourself in her place, I say.

It makes me think of the reasoning behind Viki being called dumb because she "doesn't understand". Who on God's green earth would understand all the weird crap that happens at Collinwood? I think "I don't understand" is the single most logical (and honest) statement anyone could give under those circumstances.

Gimmie a break!

How fun! I was hoping you'd do something like this, Connie. It was all I could think about when I saw the still of Barn and Quentin a few days ago in the forum montage. It was top row center (I believe). It was very similar to the last frame in the Barn/Quentin storyboard.

I've always equated the victim's behavior to the amount of blood drawn, keeping in mind the nature of the victim. I do think it makes sense that Barnabas could have his victims behave as he wanted but I don't sense that in the context of the show. I'm inclined to agree with Josette in that the writers just have the victims act in a way that is needed to suit the situation.

Dom-I am intrigued that the earliest shows are your favorites, may I ask why?  I have always liked them because of their atmosphere, way different from the rest of the show, IMHO. Maybe it's the black and white.

Hi Cassandra B,

I love everything about the early shows. The black and white, the atmosphere it created. The writing, the acting, the use of outdoor shots - everything technical was splendid.

I've read many fan opinions that the early storylines moved a little too slow for their taste. I wasn't bothered by it because it afforded us to learn so much about the characters. Not much was left out and left to our imagination. If someone was going to visit someone you actually saw them get in the car, arrive, knock on the door and have their little meeting.

What I enjoy the most though is the interactions between the characters. Because the show is new and we have to learn what drives these people. We get to see extended conversations between them that gives us insight as to why they are the way they are. I guess I enjoy watching the characters evolve. More like a traditional soap-opera. 99% of my favorite scenes or episodes come from the early storylines. The interactions between Liz and Roger are priceless. Liz is my favorite character. Her role was exquisitely written. It's like she puts on a different face for each person she comes in contact with. Her interactions with David are not to be missed. Viki and Roger are my two other faves. There are some scenes of Viki with David that are emmy worthy. Roger was a plain old hoot! Wonderfully written, and marvelously acted by Louie.

Have to mention the entry of Laura into the storyline. Wow, she really kicked things up a notch or two. Her first two episodes are classic soap-opera at it's best.

An aside: Loved the first Sam Evans - hated to see him go.

I first saw these episodes as an adult.  I doubt I'd have felt the same if I had seen them as a kid. Which has everything to do with it, I guess.

Have fun watching during the pre-empts.

You can't, Cassandra.  If you want a post deleted just leave it blank and we'll remove it soon as we see it.

You poor thing!  But I didn't remove any extra posts last nite or today.

Hi Cassandra (and Midnite), (FYI) You had only one post that needed to be deleted last evening. Your reply concerning the Autograph Collector magazine posted twice. After comparing them and finding them to be identical, I deleted one.

BTW, If you have the spare time, I'd love to hear what the magazine had to say about Patsy Cline. She's a fave of mine too. You can IM me (if you'd like) since it is way off topic. I won't be able to purchase a copy of the mag.

Still slow here.

It seems the last bit of the loading bar has the hardest time loading. Images won't load or will only partially load. I got the image in MB's post above to fully load by clicking the stop icon in the browser and then hitting the refresh button.

I have DSL so I think my load time is faster than some of the load times I am reading here, but it is still way slow.

Can we blame this on sun spots? ;)

Hi Dom... This question has been on my mind for awhile.  I keep dismissing it and telling myself to mind my own business, but it's popped into my head again after reading your previous post.  How come there are a couple of DS people who seem to be exempt from the board guidelines regarding personal attacks?  It's like, it's not considered appropriate to post something that could be hurtful to someone, but it's allowed if it's something about Roger Davis??  You know what I mean?  LOL.   I've also noticed that Dan Curtis seems to be pretty fair game occasionally, and then there was Betsy Durkin a little while ago.  But as far as Roger Davis goes, I don't know how many threads I've seen over the last few months (alot) specifically about him - not just his characters - HIM.  So, I wonder, well...how does anyone know someone close to him, or a family member doesn't see this board occasionally?  Apparently he married a fan, so it's conceivable his wife could read this board.  Not likely, but possible nonetheless.  No?  I mean, if I were his wife, I would find a great many things said about him on here, quite hurtful.  I know it could be said, "well, even a couple of actresses from the show have made disparaging comments about him in public, so it's all right".  But does that make it all right then?  See?  I'm confused.

Please don't get me wrong.  I'm not making a statement about this AT ALL.  I know a lot of people have fun with the Roger Davis bashing - it's a popular pastime on here - LOL, and it certainly doesn't bother ME in the least, but I can't quite reconcile in my head (a confusing place to be lol), the guidelines and Davis' seeming exclusion from them.  I guess I'm wondering if I'm totally missing something or my interpretation of things is off.  For example:  There's a popular actress from the show whose acting I think is quite poor.  I don't think I would ever post that opinion though, because it doesn't seem appropriate and it might fall under a guideline.  Would it??
I dunno....what's YOUR take on all this?  Am I being too confusing here? -CLC

Hi Connie,

Eloquence isn't my strong point so please bear with me. I am going to take for granted that what you wrote is what you meant and respond accordingly. I've been active on the forum just a few weeks and have started paying strict attention to each and every post as a "moderator in training," if you will, for less than two weeks so I am bringing to the table little knowledge of what has transpired here before my arrival concerning issues about personal attacks on Roger Davis. I may have to defer to Midnite to answer your concerns regarding that issue specifically. I don't recall seeing any such posts.

The bulk of the forum guidelines (which I've read at least six times since I read your post above, LOL.) IMHO are there to protect us from each other. Guidelines directed toward the Dark Shadows cast and crew are as follows:

7. These boards are not forums for the spreading of gossip or innuendo, or the slandering of the DS actors' private lives. Comment on their public behavior, whether it be a personal appearance or in the course of some other form of public exposure (i.e. a talk show, Fest appearance, etc.) is perfectly acceptable, however.

What I recall being posted negatively of Roger Davis, Betsy Durkin, and Dan Curtis were attacks of their character portrayals, and in Curtis' case his being a spendthrift and on the choices he made concerning the shows development, etc. Such statements fall well within the forum's guidelines. When an actor performs a role it is considered a public presentation and therefore open to scrutiny and debate. And Curtis' reputation as a spendthrift is well documented in DS books and videos and can be directly attributed to his own words. When many people are of the same negative opinion it takes on the appearance of being hurtful and vicious. But they do not qualify as such under the forum guidelines.

And Connie, you certainly have the right to judge an actors ability and post your opinions. It is the intent of a post that one needs to be concerned with when trying to stay within the guidelines of the forum. And of course the way it is stated is in direct proportion to the way it is received. Many forum members choose not to post negatively, but that is a choice we all make within ourselves.

How did I do? LOL. I hope I helped you to sort this out somewhat.

BTW:

When Midnite introduced us in Anaheim she mentioned the city you live in. (I won't mention it here because it is not listed in your profile). Anyway...(and I know this is a big, big longshot, believe me) but have you ever run into the 1967 Julia Hoffman clone that is at large in your city? When I saw her I almost dropped dead. There is a breakfast/lunch cafe in the dolby building on 9th street and Bryant (I think it's Bryant) called the Left Coast Cafe. (Across the street from the old Toys R Us [now Nordstrom Rack].) I used to see this woman almost every time I'd have lunch there (around 1-sh). Not only does she resemble the black and white Dr. Hoffman but she wears her hair exactly like Julia did when she first came on the show (that wig you hate). Now that is too much of a coincidence for me to believe. I always wanted to ask her if she was a fan or if she was aware of how much she resembled Grayson in that character but I never got the nerve.
