I remember being snowed in at my aunt's (coincidentally, Casssandra) in the Bronx during one those infamous 12 inch snow storms to blow through the city in the sixties (or was it the seventies?). I remember we were watching Ed Sullivan and he announced on the show that the storm had dropped twelve inches of snow on the city (bringing it to a standstill). Anyway, I remember the old men in the household readying to shovel the snow with a few shots of whiskey. Then as each got too chilled to shovel, they'd come in for another shot and maybe a meatball or two my aunt would be cooking for that day's early dinner. So if you got a bottle and meatballs cooking the next time it snows, Cassandra - I'm there!!! Oh, and you'll have to put up with some snowball throwing and snowman building...Snow always makes me feel like a kid again, I love it.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. Perhaps this is his way of giving something to you after his passing.

'twas my lucky day. Went shopping for Christmas dinner and though the place was packed, all the isles I needed to shop in were practically empty and I found everything I needed. Then I managed to find the one checkout line that was two people deep while all the others were no less than seven or more. I'm talking Costco on the last Sunday before Christmas!

Then I ran into Walmart and they had the CD that I couldn't even find at the major record stores. To top it off, there was a clerk there that was *available* and knew exactly where I could find exactly what I wanted. And I had the same luck at the checkout - no waiting. I was expecting shopping to be a nightmare today and to take forever. I was totally blown away at my luck today.

My grandmother (to quote Midnite) was a known strega (in Italy and New York) and everyone was afraid of her. Well, let's just say that they didn't mess with her. She put many a curse on people who messed with her or her family. And they worked - hence the reputation, I guess.

My Mom told me that my GM used to do the drops of oil in water to cure headaches - she'd drop them in the form of a cross. I think the water had to be boiling or at least hot - but maybe not.
