Current Talk '24 I / Re:WB ORDERS FILMING OF NEW DS PILOT

In reply #71 of this thread, Cassandra provided a link (thanks!) that has a multitude of photo's of Marley Shelton, the most recent being taken at a premiere (of Uptown Girls) in August of 2003. She's wearing a white dress with an over-one-shoulder strap. It is the second link offered in the reply. Click on more photo's once you get there.

The purist side of me is somewhat disappointed with the choice. The other side (don't know what to call it) of me is quite happy that a choice has been made and that she is credited with being a very good actress, which I think is a very, very good thing. I'll take good acting over hair color any day.

I find this all very exciting! It's a lot of fun being in on the developements as they unfold as opposed to finding out a week in advance of the series premiere and being totally unprepared and ultimately disappointed, as was the case for me personally with the 91 series. I'm finding, that it's much better for me to have the time to get over any personal prejudices and disapprovals that would ultimately get in the way as I know they would if I had to deal with them while viewing the show at the same time.

Thanks to all who've provided links and quotes,
dom

Interesting choice. I'll have to check out some of her work. I've seen PLEASANTVILLE but I don't remember her (or much of the movie for that matter).

What do you think about her age? I wonder if Viki will be thirty also?  I guess this is a positive developement for those who were worried about WB casting a bunch of teenagers in major roles.

So far, so good I'd say. We're that much closer to a new DS.

Just wondering- For those of us who like the idea of a new location being located in the south, how would you feel about the Collins family members speaking with southern accents? Enhancing, interesting, distracting?

Could be fun to have Barnabas be released in Collinsport Maine, only to find that the family has moved lock, stock, and barrell to (where ever in) the south.

How appropriate, Connie, lol. Any town with "nut" in it would be apropriate for the Collins clan. :)

Here you go, Patti. ;D It was a very long and painful process, but, anything for you, my dear fellow Forums member and DS fan.  :-*

George Mitchell: The original Matthew Morgan

Mark Allen: The original Sam Evans

PS - Neither of these photos are of the actors as their DS characters.

Probably, but let's hope not. I'm more worried the hair style making it's way back.

My wish list...

1, Lara Parker's Cassandra wig (which I would present to Gothick on his next birthday). :-*

2, Viki Winter's trench coat. (This would be my ultimate unattainable DS collectable.)

3, A complete mint set of the "pink" DS trading cards (hell, I'd be happy with a well used set).

4, Burke Devlin's filigree pen.

5, The drawing room's crystal decanter that held the sherry, or was it brandy?

6, The I-ching wands.

7, Joan Bennett's script from episode one.

8, The take slate (with the final episode's stats still chalked on it).

9, Natalie du Pres's/Magda's deck of tarot cards - assuming they were the same deck. (The cards never lie.) I would present these to Midnite on her next birthday. :-*

10, The title to the Carey mansion (Collinwood) and a few billion to restore it and turn it into a DS museum and film set. I can dream, can't I?

I thought it might be fun to reveal our personal wish list of the DS collectables we "wish" we could claim as our very own. This topic is inspired by Sandor's recent post in the Topic, Most Valuable Item. Let's have some fun and mix it up with serious and outrageous items. Thanks for the inspiration, Sandor! Loved your list! So much so that I've copied it here to start off this new topic.

MOST VALUABLE ITEM - in my dreams:
1. The butt of a cigarette smoked by Grayson Hall (w/ lipstick traces).
2. Nancy Barrett's boa when she portrayed the possessed Charity Trask/Pansy Faye.
3. The hand of Count Petofi.
4. Don Briscoe's underwear, and speedo.

Hope you had a

Happy Birthday!

Natalie du Pres had some very funny comments upon her arrival at the old House (which wasn't old at the time). IIRC they were jabs at the American way of life, which really ruffled Joshua's feathers in particular. Very funny stuff!

All I'd ask (if asked) is that the actor be the age of the character, or at least look the age of the character at the time of the character's humanly demise. I am not willing to have my imagination taxed (to borrow Mark's phrase) beyond reasonable expectations. I've got better things to do with my limited down-time.

I agree with Raineypark's thoughts about the show but for different reasons. The last thing I want to do is get involved in another continuing series. I can't stand the thought of feeling chained to a TV show. Add to that, that sci-fi/horror/fantasy is my least favorite television genre. If it weren't DS I wouldn't even give it a shot.

I spent a good amount of time last night on the web looking up Joan's nomination. I thought she had won and I was going to mention it in this thread. I only had luck finding nominees - no winner. It was very frustrating.

This was the only list I found that included Joan's nomination:

IMDB1968EmmyAwardsList

Does anyone know anything about Joan's thoughts on her nomination, if she attended the show, etc.?

Thanks, scottd, for posting DS alumni emmy nominations.

Two DS alumni that I think deserved to be nominated for their performances on the show are Nancy Barrett and Thayer David as they (IMHO) gave consistantly excellent performances while also playing a wide range of characters. There are others but I think NB and TD are the standouts, again, IMHO.

While I agree that a 24 year old that looks sixteen would be hard to swallow as Barn, I have been seeking out pictures of the actors that have been mentioned here and there (on the Forums) as candidates for the role of Barn and have decided for myself that a young and extremely good looking actor would be fabulous in the role.

Something else came to mind the other day and it made me realize something about myself as it relates to DS and my prejudicial unwillingness to be accepting of any new DS (as in 1991). I was thinking that the original being taped on video makes it seem so much more intimate. I think the using of film to tape shows makes me feel more removed (less involved).

Now that I've figured that out about myself, I know I will be a lot less hard on any new DS that comes down the pike.

Thanks, Cassandra! Stokes remark about seeing Ange in the web dress (was she ahead of her time or what, lol!) is truely hysterical! I'm so glad you remembered it. It's great to start the day with a hardy laugh.
