Current Talk '04 I / Re: 1966 Season
« on: July 17, 2004, 03:05:36 PM »
I tried to post yesterday and download a photo I have discovered that may have been of Mark Allen.  He was in How the West Was Won back in 1962 I believe.

All this discussion about 1966 pre-Barnabas has got me interested in viewing the old tapes again.  The more I see of Mark Allen, the more I think he was perfect as Sam Evans.  That fly-away, disheveled hair, the philosophical meanderings and trailing off of his conversations really evoked the image of a man who in addition to having plenty to hide, dealt with an almost overwhelming sense of despair. His desperation to protect himself was so apparent trying to deal with Burke and Roger.
Don't know if anyone else has noticed but I don't think he wore a different set of clothes for all of his episodes than those he had in his original episode.  I do have an eye for detail and did notice that he even has a safety pin on his shirt where a button should have been. They were some great scenes between Burke & Sam & Roger. I liked David Ford but if I'd had my way, I would have kept Mark Allen in to play Sam.

Here's the picture mentioned above, courtesy of Miss_Winthrop...(he's the guy in the background).

Nice detective work, Miss_Winthrop. Thanks. This is the only other picture of Mark Allen I've ever seen. What a great find!

I agree. I was next to devastated when it was announced that the actors would be performing it instead of them showing the actual TV play. I could swear that the first Fest/weekend flyer claimed that the original production would be shown.

Hopefully, one day...

OOOH! Can't wait to see your scans!

You're a doll to share them with us, thanks!

PS - One of my favorite things to do at the DS Fests (aka, weekends  ::) ;) ) is to go into the DS memories room (that's what I call it anyway) and check out the donated (for display) scrapbooks, etc. I always feel like a kid again when I look through them.

The one pic I always get a big kick out of is one where David Selby is "at home" and is sitting down with a wine glass (or is that delicious man drinking a martini?) in hand. I had to do a double-take the first time I saw it. :o One of these days I am going to have to import that pic into Photoshop and play around with it. <insert evil grin>.

For those unfamiliar with the pic, there is one posted on MsCriseyde's fantastic Criseyde's David Selby Site (the ultimate Selby website, IMVHO). Click here, it is located at the bottom right of the page. :)

Hopefully these aren't the same pix that CastleBee plans on sharing, :-  .

You take after your dad, eh?

Uh............HEY!   :P :P :P :P

dom dearest,

First you leave me standing at the altar back in April, and NOW you're calling me stupid.  I don't know that my already shaky self-esteem can take much more.   ;)   :-*

I was waiting for that. ;) I'll make it up to you. Maybe lunch? I'm out your way til the first week of October. Have your people, call my people... 8) I owe Patti a lunch date too, maybe we can make it a threesome?

ANYWAY.....I have made an unprecedented leap into the 20th century and bought a microwave oven yesterday.  (Up until yesterday I didn't own much of anything that didn't exist at Collinwood).

LOL!

Quote
(All I need now is a cell phone and I'll be in the 21st century)  NOW the only problem is, I'm afraid of it.  I thought you just punch in the number of minutes and press start, but THIS thing has a million different settings, 10 power levels, and "inverter auto cooking" buttons and I'm totally lost.  (Yes, I've read the manual)

How funny would it have been to watch a scene with Mrs. Johnson trying to figure out how to use a microwave (or a cell phone for that matter, lol).

Any hints, info, or microwave cooking tips would be greatly appreciated!   ???
Also, can you put a casserole dish in there?  You know...like Corningware?  I know you can't put the glass lid, but can you put the dish?

See what happens when you buy from MACY*S? Next time, shop at WALMART. ;)

Reminds me of my last microwave/convection oven purchase. The darn thing is all metal on the inside (including the carousel!). After at least 10 years of heeding the microwave mantra warning, "never put metal in the microwave", it completely boggled my mind!

I didn't know you can't use glass lids in the microwave. I do it all the time without any problems. Maybe you have a next generation-microwave? (Gosh, how I miss that smart-ass emoticon!). Just buy a ton of microwave popcorn and play with it until you figure it out, Sarah, uh, I mean Connie! <snort>

Or maybe, after lunch, Patti and I can come over to your place and help you figure it out. ;D

PS - I hope you two like popcorn --  :D

PPS - I use corningware in the microwave all the time - never have a problem. And it will be worth your while to learn how to use the power levels. They make all the difference between more edible and less edible microwaved food - when you absolutely HAVE to use the microwave to cook real (home made) food.

Good luck!  :-*

Write me privately if you think you might like to get together while I am out this way. Could be fun!

Happy belated BD to DS! Gosh, how I loved the show when I was a kid. Collecting just about everything I found related to DS. Waiting for the next issue of 16 Magazine and Tiger Beat (etc.) to hit the magazine rack, getting yelled at by the store owner not to read them before buying - but heck, I wasn't going to buy them if they didn't have DS within! Heh. Back then my fave pix were the ones of Selby and Frid from the 1897 period, all that makeup, old clothes, and added backdrop color. Couldn't get enough of it!

Then there was the paperback book store where I had to beg the owners to go to the 'back room' to unpack the deliveries to see if any new Ross novels had arrived. I remember they had crystal balls under the counter for sale and I wanted one SO bad! (That was when I was in my 'Magda phase'. ::) Was intent on naming my first born girl Magda, lol. Needless to say, that DIDN'T happen!) Was $45.00 for the smaller one. Didn't have that kind of money back then - some things never change, lol.

...and I too thank MB & Midnite for this great place to revisit my old obbsession. And to get cyberly acquainted with a bunch of great fellow fans.

As for thanking me, well, thanks, but it's really MB and Midnite who make this the best (IMHO) DS place on the internet. Me? I'm just the resident nun with ruler in hand, lol. Thanks, to those who haven't held it against me.   :-*

And thanx to Al Gore for inventing the internet, lol!
