Joan Bennett does the opening voiceover. Love Joan, Liz is my fave character, but Bennett’s voiceovers don’t do a thing for me. What do you think? Do the opening voiceovers even matter to you? One thing I notice is that this voiceover is telling us that Woodard is going to eventually die. I wonder if this is a trend throughout the series – spilling the beans?

Well, I was dumbfounded at the sight of the caretaker. I thought DarkLady wrote that we saw the last of him but I see now that she meant the last of Daniel Keyes as the caretaker. Why do they have to makeup a young man to look like an old man? Are there no old men available to play these parts?

Woodard finds out from the caretaker that there is no detailed explanation of the Collins mausoleum curse. And though I thought the Collins family records were poured over during the Laura storyline, the caretaker sez that they haven’t been “disturbed” in years. And how the Caretaker knows that the two Barn’s are identical is beyond me. For a minute there I thought the caretaker was Roger Davis.

I enjoy seeing these seldom seen sets, like the caretaker’s/records room. I know that sets are redressed to become other “rooms”; Does anyone recognize or know what other rooms this “records” room at the caretakers place has been used as?

Barnabas’ talk with Roger was rather pointless but I guess they had to use Frid as he was on set. I did enjoy Edmonds’ performance immensely. I'm not used to seeing Barnabas in a casual conversation or setting as this, so, it was kind of fun for me to watch. Barn walks away from this discussion with a false sense of security, thinking Roger will convince Liz to send David away.

Should it surprise any of us that Liz insists David stay at Collinwood and not be shipped off to military school? Does anyone think Liz is playing the “money” card on Roger to get him to back down? I doubt it would be something as trite as having Mrs. J starch his shorts, lol. For some reason, their battle didn’t engross me like their battles of old. The new Liz and the new Roger aren’t as venomous as they once were, but it was still "fun" nonetheless. I thought Bennett looked lovely.

I am fascinated by the vague pattern visible on Dr. Woodard’s trench coat. Could it be seersucker?

David warns Woodard to be careful. LOL, I guess David knows the perils of investigating Barnabas Collins. Woodard and Barn go at each other and Barn is rather quick to literally dismiss Woodard. Before leaving though, Woodard drops the Sarah bomb and Barn lets him know that he’s overstayed his welcome. I expected Barn to kill Woodard right there and then. This scene could have been very suspenseful but I think the scene fell flat because of Turgeon’s (and possibly Frid's) uneven performance and shoddy camera work.

Does anyone think it was unprofessional for Dr. Woodard to tell David of his discoveries -- to go that far with the info and his personal thoughts?

Personally, I believe the Old House could weather a hurricane much better than Collinwood because of it's perceived location.

BTB, glad to hear you weathered the storm unharmed. We share stomping grounds! I've spent many recent years in the Brick/Herbertsville area & Belmar. And Asbury Park as a teen.

I was staying in Belmar before I left the Friday before Sandy to come home to batten down the hatches and in Brick before that. The house I was in that Friday is now uninhabitable. I'm glad I left because I would have been the idiot that didn't heed the mandatory evacuation.

My only personal loss is all my children's pictures from birth to now. I kept the foto's of them and me together so I feel blessed to still have those.

Annie, we're practically neighbors! I live 5 miles south of Wurtsboro. I think you are about an hour west of me!

Gerard, can't wait to read your book. Sounds like Roger will be a hoot, and the premise, something new.

That was a pleasant read, thanx for that. I love this movie more for nostalgic reasons than cinematic reasons so it nice to hear positive points. I'd love to see the new print, but, I probably never will.

Thanx for the captures, MB. You bring me such DS joy on such a consistent basis. <visualize hailing emoticon here> I've seen this promo somewhere; I wonder where? Maybe at a festival. Maybe on an MPI specialty tape. I remember feeling extremely grateful that it was still available and I was very excited that I got to see it after all those years. Being able to see DS from beginning to end was an impossible dream that came true. And who could have dreamed that one day we'd be able to actually own our own favorite TV shows and movies. No complaints here about being born too early or too late.

The worst of the color print I referred to was that is was very blurry, and as for the actual color, it is very "washed out". Thanks for chiming in on that, MB. Ever since Gothick stated that some color prints had been found to replace the B&W's I have been very curious as to just how "upgraded" the DVDs are. I've been quite critical of MPI in the past so I'd be more than happy to change my overall opinion.

Alexandra does the closing credits production call. I wonder how long this is going to go on? And I wonder why it is going on?

I'm watching the next episode now, Magnus, and yeah, lol, you are right.

Nay. A joint performance where they sang each other's hits. Don't quote me but probably a "promo" of sorts for the upcoming 45 and LP, I'm Gonna Make You Love Me & Join respectively, which eventually led to TCB, about a year later, and so on and so on and...

Alexandra does the opening voiceover.

The color VHS print I am watching of this episode is absolutely horrible. Is the DVD as bad?

Sarah reveals the mausoleum’s secret room to Woodard and he pretty much figures everything out – without her help – as he may as well have been talking to himself, lol. There was the typical forgetting, stumbling, feeding and recovery of lines one has come to expect of a Sharon Smyth performance. It was a good scene for content; there’s not much else to say other than I wish I could have seen Gerringer perform this scene.

Vicki uses the loss of Seaview as a “sign” that her wedding to Burke should be put on hold. And Burke concedes that David’s situation needs her undivided attention and then leaves town and lets her do just that. Burke sees the writing on the wall despite Vicki’s assurances to the contrary. And we get our “wink to the audience” via the fade-to-black on the portrait of Barnabas. Aside from the closure of the Seaview storyline, their relationship does seem to be losing steam and airtime.

Burke Devlin’s being out of town leaves Woodard extremely vulnerable to his newly attained knowledge. Why Vicki doesn’t know where Burke is, or how to get in touch with him is stupefying to me. I appreciate Woodard not filling Vicki in on his latest findings for her own protection.

I found Julia’s lack of sensitivity towards David’s plight and her overconfidence of Barnabas’ “feelings” a little off-putting and so did Vicki. When the characters don’t act as expected I always wonder just what the writers are going for?

I would think that Woodard would all ready be suspicious of Julia but he greets her in the library without pause. He tells her about his contact with Sarah in the mausoleum and of course Julia tries to steer him away from the truth, but Woodard isn’t budging. I wonder what Julia would have done if Woodard had told her that he was in the secret room and saw the coffin therein? As a matter of fact, I wonder why he didn’t tell her?
