It appears that there is some Dark Shadows related activity coming to Tarrytown the weekend of October 10-13th. The Sleepy Hollow Film Festival is planning a weekend of screenings and activities related to Sleepy Hollow and Halloween. This includes cult actor Jeffrey Combs doing a one man show as Edgar Allen Poe and a live production of Plan Nine From Outer Space featuring Bobcat Goldthwaite.
There is going to be something DS related as well. The announcement was extremely vague but it sounded like a screening of the documentary. This is not being presented by the Dark Shadows Festival. There may be guests with a DS connection but none have been announced as yet.
Tickets for individual events have not been announced as yet. The only prices that have been posted as yet are Gold and Platinum Tickets for the entire weekend's events. Gold tickets are priced at $235.00; platinum tickets are priced at $375.00.
Beyond the budget of many of us.
I know that a lot of this sounds rather vague but the organization's posting is short on specific information. It sounds like a very ambitious event. Let's see if they can pull it off.

Calendar Events / Announcements '24 I / Denise Nickerson update
« on: July 09, 2019, 09:56:33 PM »
Jasmine Nickerson, Denise's daughter in law, posted that Denise had a major medical emergency and was taken to the ER yesterday. She's currently in ICU and has had seizures and is said to be in pulmonary and respiratory distress. She has also developed pneumonia. They have upped her oxygen. She is under a DNR order, so they have not put in a ventilator or feeding tube. They just have to wait to see how well Denise responds.

On a brighter note, Jasmine's baby, which will be Denise's first grandchild, should be arriving in about seven weeks.

Lara Parker has a short story in the recently published Castle of Horror Anthology, Volume One. No idea what her story is about but I assume that it is not Dark Shadows related. Amazon has it for $13.99.

Remember that interview that Lara, KLS and David did with Herbie J. Pilato? The one that we assumed was connected to the DS 50th anniversary? It appears that it is finally going to air, on Amazon Prime. It's part of a series with the aforementioned Mr. Pilato, called Then Again With Herbie J. Pilato.

If you happen to be anywhere near Phoenixville, Pennsylvania on July 12-14, our own Sharon Smyth Lentz will be making her first appearance at the annual Blobfest. For the uninitiated, the Blobfest is an annual event that pays tribute to the vintage schlock Steve McQueen classic The Blob. The movie was filmed in Phoenixville and most of the locations are still there. There will be a screening of the movie in the Colonial theatre which figures prominently in the movie. There will be all sorts of Blob related activities, including a parade of fire extinguishers!
Sharon will be there, along with the robot from Lost In Space and the very cool Marta Kristen.

Sad to hear that Ken Bald passed away on March 17th at the age of 98. In addition to his work on the DS newspaper comic, he worked extensively for both Fawcett and Marvel as far back as the 1940's. He was also the artist on the long running Dr. Kildare newspaper comic which he worked on while doing the DS strip. Though he never attended a DS festival, Mr. Bald was attending comic book conventions until a few years ago. Everyone who met him said that he was a nice, friendly guy.

Calendar Events / Announcements '24 I / David Jay, After Dark Shadows
« on: March 20, 2019, 09:11:49 AM »
I was on a soap opera message board and ran across a posting from a former child actor who posted under the screen name TimWil. He recalled going on an audition as a potential recast as Chucky Shea, one of Lisa's sons on As The World Turns in 1972. One of the other actors up for the part was David Jay. TimWil hysterically describes him as looking like the image of the boy on the Dutch Boy paint can. Neither of them got the part but they continued to run into each other at auditions.
TimWil ended up being cast as David's understudy in a 1974 production of Macbeth at Lincoln Center; he played Macduff's son. Others in the cast were John Heard, Carol Kane, Christopher Walken and Christopher Lloyd!

An announcement popped up on my Facebook newsfeed saying that audio versions of the entire Marilyn Ross paperback series would be released through Amazon. 15 to start with, followed by the rest. The price was decent but information was sparse. No mention of who would be reading them, let alone who was releasing them.
Several fans apparently reported the announcement to you know who. No such release is planned through legitimate channels and the announcement has been deemed a fake. The Amazon listing will probably be deleted shortly.
Which raises an interesting question. Who made the original announcement in the first place? After the leak of the 2004 pilot, one would think that you know who would keep a closer watch on licensed properties.

Calendar Events / Announcements '24 I / From Marie Wallace
« on: January 17, 2019, 11:33:39 PM »
Marie Wallace made a post on Facebook regarding a small, one day DS event in NYC in early spring. No other details at this time but if I were to hazard a guess, I'd say that it would be to screen the documentary film. No idea which of the actors would be attending.

Calendar Events / Announcements '18 / Ely Pouget Joins General Hospital
« on: October 22, 2018, 09:59:08 PM »
ABC Soaps in Depth is reporting that Ely Pouget, who played Maggie Evans in the NBC incarnation of Dark Shadows, will be appearing on General Hospital in the new role of Jeanette. They haven't revealed much about her character but it is speculated that Jeanette is Margaux's mother.  [ScaredGhost] [Waving_Skeleton] [ScaredGhost]

Calendar Events / Announcements '24 I / From Chris Pennock
« on: August 26, 2018, 06:48:59 PM »
Chris announced on his Facebook page that he will be at The Hollywood Show on Saturday, October 20th. He is not listed on the Hollywood Show's website, so there's no indication if he will be there for the duration of the show or if any other DS cast members would also be appearing. Best bet is keep checking their website hollywoodshow.com

He also announced that the DS, or rather DC, documentary, Master of Shadows, would have its west coast premiere on the same day. No indication of where or when the screening would take place. And no mention of any screening on the east coast.

Stay tuned.

Calendar Events / Announcements '18 / Kelly Hu at Chiller Theatre
« on: July 23, 2018, 05:24:27 PM »
Kelly Hu, who played Julia Hoffman in the 2004 pilot, has been added to the guest list for the Halloween Chiller Theatre in Parsippany, New Jersey from October 26-28. I met Kelly at a similar show a few years ago and found her to be charming, friendly and a great convention presence.  chillertheatre.com

Calendar Events / Announcements '18 / Semi Off Topic: Marion Ross
« on: July 10, 2018, 11:37:04 PM »
I just finished reading Marion Ross' autobiography, My Days, Happy and Otherwise. Ross has had a long career and an interesting life but her DS connections are what is pertinent here. She mentions appearing in the stage production of Arsenic and Old Lace but does not mention Jonathan Frid or any of the other actors.
She does, however, devote an entire chapter to her long term companion, Paul Michael. She mentions a lot of his stage work,Zorba, Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof and a role opposite Judy Holliday in Bells Are Ringing. But the only television part she mentions by name is his appearance as King Johnny Romano on DS.
Their romance was unexpected but sweet. Just a nice couple who found true love after sixty.
And the rest of the book is interesting too!
