Calendar Events / Announcements '24 I / Tom and Jerry and Chloe Moretz
« on: November 18, 2020, 05:36:49 PM »
I saw the trailer for this online last night. It's supposed to tell the origin of the infamous cat and mouse team. Jerry has taken up residence in a posh hotel which is about to host what is termed the wedding of the century. The event planner, played by Moretz, brings in Tom to get rid of the mouse. Hijinks ensue.
They are trying to sell this as being in the same vein as Who Framed Roger Rabbit but, aside from being a mix of live action and animation, the films don't seem to be very much alike. As a kid's movie, it seems okay but I am not sure that today's kids have any idea who Tom and Jerry are.
Chloe does look cute and maybe her audience will support the film. It's currently scheduled to be released next March.

Calendar Events / Announcements '24 I / David Selby in Retro Fan
« on: August 18, 2020, 01:52:34 AM »
David Selby has done an interview with the magazine called Retro Fan. He's got the cover and the issue, #11, is scheduled for November and should be out in time for Halloween. Retro Fan can usually be found in most comic book stores and Barnes and Noble. Due to the pandemic, distribution may not be as reliable as it would be otherwise. I would strongly recommend checking with your local store. Retro Fan can be ordered directly from the publisher at twomorrows.com

Calendar Events / Announcements '24 I / Off Topic: Melange
« on: May 22, 2020, 05:32:10 PM »
Did anyone catch Melange when it aired on Logo this week? It is the pilot film for a proposed online soap about a legendary NYC gay bar named Melange, the mysterious death of its owner and the battle for ownership. The cast is full of veteran soap actors. My little friend Kristen Alderson is playing a character named Abigail Collins. Yes, Abigail Collins. Collins is a pretty common name, though Abigail is not. I had to ask if that was just a coincidence. Apparently, there are a lot of Easter Eggs in Melange aimed at soap aficionados. Ilene Kristen is playing a character named Dolly Faye. Wonder if she's descended from Leticia or Pansy.
I don't know if it will be airing again on Logo but it is on YouTube.

Yes, there is a connection! The credits for The Gold Key comics have long been a mystery but someone did some detective work and discovered that several of the books were written by a young Merrie Spaeth. Spaeth costarred with Tippy Walker in the Peter Sellers classic The World of Henry Orient. Acting jobs were hard to come by after Orient, so Spaeth supported herself by writing comic books. Boris Karloff's Thriller. Smokey the Bear. And Dark Shadows.
No indication as to which issues or how many she wrote but the author has requested an interview with her for a future article on the Gold Key comics for Back Issue Magazine.
I wouldn't expect her to make an appearance at a DS event. Spaeth did extremely well for herself and is in demand for speaking engagements.

An announcement was made on the Chiller Theatre Facebook page that Kate will be attending the April Chiller Theatre. It has not yet been posted on their website. Kate has made very few appearances at these kind of shows, so this is a great opportunity to finally meet her.

Calendar Events / Announcements '24 I / Mitch Ryan, The Hollywood Show
« on: October 29, 2019, 08:51:12 PM »
A posting on The Hollywood Show's Facebook page states that Mitch Ryan will be retiring after his appearance at the show on November 1st and 2nd. It doesn't specify if Mitch is retiring from acting or just from personal appearances. He is 91 and has certainly earned a rest. If you can't attend the show, you can order a signed photo through their website. The cost is $35 and I would expect about another $10 for shipping.

Laurel Wiley, who appeared in today. NBC Dark Shadows, passed away today. She had a small part as the screaming girl that Reverend Trask was trying to get a confession from when Abigail arrived seeking his services. Her other credits include Vanilla Sky and Ocean's 13 as Al Pacino's wife.
She had some serious health issues, including several bouts with cancer. She had been hospitalized with a heart problem and flatlined last week, so I think that she knew that she didn't have much time.
I only knew Laurel through Facebook and I always enjoyed reading her posts. She was always doing whatever she could to help others. I hope that she has found peace.

Sharon's going to have quite a busy fall. She will be making an appearance at a one day event called Legends Fest on Saturday September 28th at The Holiday Inn in Clark, New Jersey. In addition to Sharon, the guests will include Alison Arngrim from Little House on The Prairie and Felix Silla who played Cousin Itt. Also in attendance will be Sara Karloff, Ron Chaney and someone who goes by the name Frank Steinatra. I guess Old Blue Skin is back.
The person in charge is Bruce Tango, who bills himself as a ghost hunter.
