To promote the October release of Carrie, Chloe Morets will be at the New York Comic Con over the weekend of October 10-13. The con is a very popular event and tickets may only be available on the secondary market.
Photo ups with Chloe will set you back $90.00. Think that's pricey? It's downright cheap compared to the $445.00 it costs to have you picture taken with Sylvester Stallone.

Issue #175 of Video Watchdog has a review of the DVD. It's a pretty balanced review, addressing the good points as well as the bad. Tim Lucas describes the opening twelve minutes as being the finest twelve minutes of Burton's career. He also describes the finale as like seeing a clueless filmmaker with infinite funds at his disposal throwing his script pages up in the air.

Lucas cites the film's lack of narrative structure (a problem with most Burton movies). he narrative ignores Vicki for long strwtches and never quite lives up to the promise of its opening. A confrontation of some sort between Angelique and Josette /Vicki/Maggie would have given the audience something to invest in emotionally.

It's not a Valentine but it's not a lynching either. Lucas makes his points quite well with both style and wit. Even those of us who genuinely liked the movie will probably crack a smile when Lucas refers to Vicki as the Marilyn Munster of the story.

Calendar Events / Announcements '13 II / Lara Parker's NYC Book Signing
« on: September 10, 2013, 03:00:48 PM »
I attended Lara Parker's book signing in Manhattan last night. It was quite an evening!

My friend & I were on our way down to where the event was going to be when Lara and her husband Jim stopped us. She gave us huge hugs and spent close to half an hour chatting with us as she greeted people as they arrived at the store. She looked great, better than I've seen her in a while. She was quite witty too, saying this was going to be a mini Dark.Shadows Festival since that's all we've got this year. She didn't actually slam the cruise but did indicate that the cost of the cruise kept a lot of fans from going. She did confirm that there will be a Festival in Tarrytown next summer.

Marie Wallace popped in unannounced, looking fabulous. She made a complete recovery from the fall she took last year in Waterbury. She did have her shoulder replaced. She stayed through the event, taking pictures with fans and just being the Marie we all love.

Barnes & Noble did NOT order enough books. People bought multiple copies and sold out. My friend got the last one. Guess I'll have to get mine from Amazon.

Even though I didn't get the book, I'm still very glad that I went!

On page 69 of the September 16th issue of Soap Opera Digest,  there's a picture of DC from War and Remembrance with cast members Barry Bostwick, Hart Bochner and Kin Shriner. Be advised that DC is the only one who appears shirtless.

The February 2013 has some pretty good interviews with Barbara Steele and Jessica Chastain.

Steele's is a career overview, from her Italian films to her current project, The Butterfly Room. She admits to having ambiguous feelings about doing the autograph circuit but does them for a practical reason: no pension. Being a producer was not her cup of tea but she managed to get along quite well with DC. According to Barbara, they had similar temperaments and she just wasn't scared of him.

She would have liked the 1991 Julia to have been written differently but DC didn't go with it. She admits to liking the Depp film but not "the frumpy light" that Julia was portrayed in.

Jessica Chastain outs herself as one of us. She's a DS fan and loved playing Carolyn Stoddard. She said that she understands why people love the show so much and is flattered, if a bit surprised, that people still ask her about it.

Daytime TV is suddenly more interesting than it's been in a long time. Lynn Herring is back on General Hospital is back as Lucy Coe. When last seen on the spinoff series Port Charles, the character had been reimagined as a vampire slayer. Lucy's Buffie-like past is going to be addressed. This could be interesting, since three of the actors who played vampires on Port Charles are now on Hospital as other characters. Is Lucy crackers? Are there vampires on the DL? Did Lucy stumble across an alternate universe where vampires exist?

Calendar Events / Announcements '12 II / OT: ABC Soaps in Depth 12/24/2012
« on: December 07, 2012, 07:12:21 AM »
Earlier this fall, I attended Daytime Stars and Strikes, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. It was held at the Bowlmor Lanes in Times Square. Many actors from Guiding Light and One Life to Live came to bowl and mix with the fans. Like the DS Festival, they had a charity auction. One of the prizes was a photo in a future issue of ABC Soaps in Depth. And I won! As part of the prize, I got to select two actors to be in the picture with me. I chose Gina Tognoni and Ilene Kristen. Gina won two Emmy Awards for her work on Guiding Light. Ilene is a showbiz veteran and was of the original cast of Grease. They are both great ladies.

This is a bi-weekly publication and should be on sale until Christmas. The picture of me is on page 23.

Calendar Events / Announcements '12 II / The Crothers Brother?
« on: November 05, 2012, 03:26:23 AM »
Had a great time at Chiller Theatre last weekend. I had a very interesting conversation with Audrey Landers. She worked with Joel Crothers on Somerset back in the '70's. Like most people, she adored Joel and socialized with him to an extent. She also mentioned that he had a brother who was a schoolteacher. And she said they were twins. Now, she didn't say that they were identical twins. Wouldn't that be a DS touch though?

Anyone have any other info?

Calendar Events / Announcements '12 II / Eva Green's website
« on: October 03, 2012, 05:12:58 AM »
Eva Green's official website, www.evagreenweb.com, has an enormous selection of photos from the movie. I don't think I've seen this many pictures in one place before. Some are familiar but a lot of them were new to me. Screen captures, promotional shots, posters and more. All about Eva, of course. But that's certainly not a bad thing.

Chloe Moretz, the 2012 Carolyn, will be appearing at the New York Comic Con at the Javits Center to promote Carrie. She and Julianne Moore will appear at a panel discussion on the afternoon of October 13. This is great news IF you've already purchased your tickets as the event is sold out.

If you're interested, she does have her own website/twitter, chloemoretz.com, where you can fully immerse yourself in all things Chloe. There are some interesting DS behind the scenes pictures of her with dots of her face in preparation for the werewolf CGI.

Calendar Events / Announcements '12 II / Erica Fitz
« on: September 10, 2012, 04:43:21 AM »
Well, I was poking around on the Internet and stumbled across a website for one of the most evil women in history, Danielle Roget/Leona Eltridge alias Erica Fitz. It seems that she left NYC (and presumably acting), moved to Pennsylvania and began a public relations/copywriting business. She currently coaches college students in both acting and writing.

The site, Ericafitzmears.com, has a couple of pictures of her. I would not have recognized from DS but she looks pretty good for someone who hit 70 this year.

Interesting bio, which may debunk some of the rumors that have circulated about her for years. She moved to Pennsylvania with her husband and were married for thirty years until his death. They also had one child, a daughter. Well, if they can bring Bobbi Ann Woronko to a Festival, maybe they can bring Erica too.

Calendar Events / Announcements '12 II / Vampirella crossover
« on: August 27, 2012, 12:56:20 AM »
The first issue of the Dark Shadows/Vampirella crossover is out. Big surprise: it actually came out reasonably on time. Too bad that Marc Andreyko is not on the regular book, as this is a decent story. Somewhat densely plotted but intriguing. The lead villainess is an especially nasty vampire from the middle ages, who survives into the Victoria era, where she enslaves Jack the Ripper.

The action shifts to the present where the baddies have done something nasty to the descendant of Crystal Cabot, who had been one of Barnabas' early victims. Once the news reaches Collinsport, that's enough to send Barnabas and Quentin to NYC to investigate. Vampirella is already on the job.

The first issue is intriguing enough to make me want to see where this is headed. Barnabas and Vampirella do not meet until the final panel but it looks like this could be an interesting teamup. Both are flawed heroes, with very different personalities and methods.

Writing a good comic book is a skill all its own. Andreyko has come up with a promising story with decent dialogue. The artwork is superior to anything the monthly book has had so far.

It's a decent book. I'll be interested to see where issue #2 goes.
