The meeting between Burke and Roger happens and delivers on the build up. Burke pretends smiling ease and Roger is tense.  Many tidbits of information are dropped about what happened ten years ago.  While this goes on Vickie goes in search of Matthew Morgan. She looks like a doll standing outside the massive door to the cottage which once the exterior footage is over and she enters magically turns to normal size.  One thing we learn is Roger has only been back a month. Matthew throws Vickie out once he learns she was not there on Elizabeth’s behalf.  On the way back Vickie sees Burke in the garage near Rogers car.

Vickie on Widows Hill and she hears the Widows wail. Roger comes along and tells her it’s the Widows moaning with grief. He says the Widows were forced out 150 years earlier by Jeremiah Collins.  Rogers begins to interrogate Victoria over her meeting with Burke. I get the feeling that Roger could send Vickie over the Edge at any moment.
In town, Sam tells Maggie he wants to move away. Maggie seems more tortured than wisecracking.
Carolyn arrives on the cliff ending the tension and sending Roger to see Elizabeth but not telling him Burke is there. When he learns this fact he wavers between going in and fleeing.  The end. Good tension in the episode.

Elizabeth asks Burke what his game is and since he always hated Collinsport why return.  Meanwhile, at the Inn, Sam walks in and chats up Mr. Wells who is filling Maggie’s role today while she takes and extended break.
Burke wants to know if Collinwood is for sale. He says he wants to tell Roger that he has no plans for revenge. Carolyn is dispatched to find Roger.  Not an eventful episode.  No upstairs phone?  Later there were, but I can remember when we had one phone in the kitchen and it could not be heard in half the house so my mother had one installed in the downstairs entrance hall.

David tries to hide from Elizabeth.  They have a discussion about the broken teacup, but David insists that “they” did it.
Carolyn comes to see Burke and he plants a paper for her to see about leaving shortly for South America.
Meanwhile, back at Collinwood, Roger tells his sister David belongs in a mental institution. We learn that she paid him to stay away for ten years.  Roger and David have only been back a month, but how did Elizabeth come to care for David so much. Maybe he got sent down for visits.  David is hiding behind chair and Roger catches him. It is clear he has no love for the boy.

David appears in a scene all covered in mud, but in a really staged way, not like one looks when really playing in mud.

Carolyn brings Burke to Collinwood and Elizabeth is surprised.

It was just in either 8 or 9 episodes where Carolyn felt she was stuck because her mother would be alone if she left. That was one of the reasons Elizabeth brought in Vickie to be her companion. It also seems that Elizabeth only expects that Carolyn will get married.  Carolyn also said to Vickie that she feels trapped but she’s afraid to leave.
It would seem that Elizabeth would be training Carolyn to take over. Obviously Roger was cut out and it’s seems with good reason.

Bill Malloy comes to Collinwood and he and Elizabeth mainly worry about Burke. Bill suggests that Burke was framed for his crime. Bill figures that Burke wants all the Collins holdings and he will do what it takes to stop him.
Carolyn  tells one of the first ghost stories about three women who have jumped off the 100 foot cliff. The first was Josette wife of the builder of the house. The other two were governesses and Carolyn teasingly adds that a third was destined to die there.
I thought it was telling that Bill and Elizabeth discuss the business daily and Roger is nowhere around and nobody seems to know where he is or care that much.

Elizabeth seems worried that Vickie will call the foundling home. Vickie does call and learns that nobody there knew the Collins family and the letter was the first contact. It becomes clear in the episode that Elizabeth knows the whole true story, but chooses to keep it secret.
I find Carolyn to be very interesting. Her switches between being very naive and childlike and then more grown up ring true for a seventeen year old. I think her clothes and hair are much better than later on in the show.

This is a town episode. Everyone is visiting in town between the Evans’ and the Cafe.  Maggie says she wouldn’t work at Collinwood for 100.00. Did they offer her 101.00 in future days?  Burke is connected to Sam in Maggie in the past. Burke doesn’t recognize Maggie after ten years which seems strange. maybe because she’s blonde?
Roger is on a mission today to see first Sam and then Vickie until he finds she is with Burke.  Vickie has a mission to make a secret call to Hopewell at the foundling home.

The Basement makes a nice spooky debut.  I find it hard to believe Mathew didn’t know about Miss Winters.
More of Vickies past come to light.  Despite her denials, Liz know about Vickies past as inferred from her conversation with the troubled child David.

[Pump] Vickie has decided to leave and David decides to help her pack. She and Carolyn are in the eat in kitchen talking about her past as a foundling. Roger comes in with a letter from the home. I was under the assumption that she had left yesterday for Maine. Maybe there is no straight connection to Maine so she had to stay overnight in multiple towns, but then one would assume the mail also went by train.  Widows Hill is decidedly different form the exterior shots and the in studio ones.  This is where Vickie meets the extremely odd Sam Evans who recounts the tale of Josette Collins. In the end, Vickie pluckily decides to stay for all her tomorrows.

[Were_Vamp] Vickie gets thrown right into the middle of things due to Roger’s obsession with Burke Devlin. Elizabeth seems to have a low opinion of her brothers ability to handle a crisis or maybe anything, although she seems to wish he could.  And then Vickie meets her charge in the middle of the night and he hates her at first sight. Welcome to Collinwood Miss Winters.

It’s interesting how young Nancy Barrett plays Carolyn in her scenes with Vickie and has a vulnerability that she certainly didn’t show in her Blue Whale scenes in prior episodes. Bill Malloy makes his appearance and Roger has some ties with Sam Evans and Burke Devlin.

Would someone really take a job without investigating the people first, meeting the child, and the family?  The Collins family knew she was coming, so why no one met her seems off.  They should have said she was supposed to get a cab and it didn’t show because of the flat tire.

Lots more extras at the Blue Whale. David is continued to be portrayed as a difficult child. Roger’s reaction to Devlin’s name adds to the mystery.

I wonder about the first two takes. How far did they get before they were scrapped. All the exterior footage had to be edited in so it would seem they could edit the scenes also. Perhaps they rewrote. All the extras are nice. I forgot we see the car driver bring in the bags to the hotel.

Brutus ghost  tells Morgan they are his. Brutus comes into room and wants Cath to come to him as Amanda. Dawn comes and Brutus says they have won. Morgan shoots Bramwell in the shoulder. Julia and Kendrick come in and Morgan takes Cath and runs. Meanwhile, Flora and Julia go to Melanie who is okay. Kendrick and Melanie reunite and hug.
Cath and Morgan are on the roof in what appears to be. New set. Perhaps a widows walk. Bramwell comes out and Morgan plans  to throw her off the roof. Kendrick appears and he struggles with Morgan who goes through the railing to his death.  Melanie and Kendrick plan to leave tonight.  Both sets of lovers kiss. Cath feels quilts about Morgan and will leave within the week. Melanie if found lying in the woods with Marks on her neck. Stokes is there and he says he swears there is a vampire at Collinwood,  then a V/O saying this time there was no vampire. Melanie and Kendrick has 3 kids and Bramwell and Cath were a living legend.
Quite the exciting episode. Loved the roof set.  Wished Julia had been a more sympathetic character. Maybe in love with Bramwell as a child and he only wanted Cath. Would have like to seen Flora and Josette
have it out over Justin and Melanie.   I remember when Melanie got bit, thinking that it can’t be the end. The TV guide must be wrong and then the V/O and it was and Monday Password was on and became my Mom’s favorite show.
