Carolyn returns from looking for David and chats with her mother in the drawing room. Carolyn has the anti-David side and Elizabeth the pro-David side. David shows up in Burke’s room and they have a nice chat which reveals more to the events of 10 years ago. Mainly that Burke and his parents were all pals back then. David hides the bleeder valve under the sofa cushion. He’s really quite a bright boy for nine.

Elizabeth blames  Vickie for driving David away. Which is true. Vickie acted like a childish older sister.  She has supposedly been teaching orphans in New York and grew up there. She should have more sense to deal with a troubled child.  Carolyn goes to chat with the sullen governess who can’t seem to let it go. Carolyn says a storm is coming. Vickie’s first. Carolyn talks about power failing as the wind whistles from the open window.

Maggie calls and says she saw David. Elizabeth sends CaroLyn into town and then goes to apologize to Vickie.
In town Burke pulls the valve from the sofa when he sends David to the bathroom.  The dramatic end.

Another town episode.  Burke goes to police and berates the constable for searching his room. In the he comes Out and reveals his true intentions and he was in last episode berating Bronson for not being secretive.
David and Maggie are in the cafe and she realizes he is on his own so secretly calls Roger who shows up and David is gone. Burke comes in and he can Roger spar as usual. Maggie questions Burke and Roger separately about Sam.  When everyone is out of the cafe, David emerges from the Phone booth for the dramatic ending.
KLS seemed to have found the essence of Maggie in this episode. I could feel empathy with her concern for Pop and her interaction with David was compassionate.

Vickie looks for David in the drawing room. Carolyn comes in and she tells her David tried to commit murder. Elizabeth remarks that Roger is absolutely useless. She refuses to believe Vickie. David is not found.
Meanwhile Burke is secretly meeting with Bronson to learn about Collins finances.  He returns to his room and learns a little boy tried to sneak in.   Now we know where David has been.

Roger catches David reading Vickie’s letter. This results in a big argument. Downstairs Vickie worries about David and Elizabeth quashes any idea of a problem. Upstairs Vickie picks up David’s mechanic magazines and talks about taking things apart. David asks her if she wants him to go to jail and that he didn’t try to kill his father. Vickie seems to ignore the whole thing in a state of cluelessness.  Downstairs The siblings argue over Vickie. She tells him to lie about Vickies  hiring saying it’s a private matter And will remain so or he get the boot.  Roger says it was an anonymous benefactor.  Now the anger shifts into town as Roger berates the police for not arresting Burke. Vickie find her letter missing and goes to search David’s room where she finds the bleeder valve.  I had a hard time with Vickie who is supposedly the child psychologist in the making not even questioning David when he basically admits he tried to kill his father.

Carter is on the lookout for Burke.  Okay, I can see this is going to be a town episode. I’ve been finding those not as interesting as when they are at Collinwood. Maggie tries to pump Carter for info and fails.  Carolyn comes in loaded with boxes and orders lunch for her and Joe. They get medium hamburgers and Nancy Barrett takes. A bit out of hers. Carter wants to talk to Burke in his room and later Carolyn is asked up to get her take on the events of the attempted murder. She says it was her idea to take Burke home.  After Carter leaves, Carolyn confronts Burke about getting his portrait painted. He says he changed his mind about staying.

David asks her about the worst thing she did and was it trying to kill someone.  Vickie get called down to talk to the cop. David eavesdrops. The group goes to get the wrench for fingerprints. David managed to get his all over it by knocking it on floor and picking it up. At no time does Vickie ever wonder about any of this.

Maggie is at home chatting with Burke about his past trial etc.  Sam is at the diner with mute waitress Suzie.
Roger comes in and they chat about they are the ones who know what really happened ten years ago. Sam goes home and Burke reveals he wants his portrait painted to go over the Collins house mantel.  Roger and Kitten talk and she tries to get him to not charge Burke with murder. Burke tells Sam is staying. Some good information revealed in the chats. It’s all about Burke.

The opening is a live shot of the sea. Vickie and Carolyn rehash the details of the accident and Vickie believes Burke is innocent. A special delivery letter from the Home arrives telling Vickie Strake was making inquiries. Bill is simultaneously questions Burke about Strake making inquiries around town. Burke reveals he’s interested in a cannery in Logansport. The kitchen/ breakfast room is always brightly lit. I guess to reflect the morning sun.

Roger and Vickie pull up to the inn in the convertible and walk into the side door of the diner.  Roger goes to confront Devlin while Vickie waits in the empty diner. It seems the days of extras are over.  Roger accuses Burke of attempted murder and call Vickie  to  come and recount her seeing Burke by the car and Burke admits he had the wrench in hand.
Sam learns Maggie checks up on him.  They have a row over it and he accuses her of a lack of trust. Maggie is now a redhead. Assuming as her hair is dark and when the show goes color she is a redhead.

Roger wakens Vickie who says she’s not dressed.  She will meet him downstairs after she puts on her robe which takes the whole episode basically. David is hiding in the Dark Shadows of the foyer; eavesdropping.
David and Roger have another father son chat and Roger accuses him of only being sorry he’s still alive. Roger wants Vickie to go confront Burke right now.  David puts the Bleeder Valve in Vickie’s dresser which makes no sense unless he is trying to frame her.  He’s a sharp cookie and should have figure out that Burke is the prime suspect.

David sleepwalks to the tower window and as his Aunt  Elizabeth  catches him he cries out, “I didn’t kill him”
Meanwhile, The folksy Dr Reeves tends to Roger who has a sprained wrist and two band aids on forehead and remarks he should have died. Malloy investigates and says it was no accident. Bleeder Valve is missing!!!
Roger learns Vickie saw Burke in the garage. Very heavy handed writing to make sure we know it was David. I think they should have been more ambiguous.

Roger only ends up with cuts and bruises. We don’t see him so it’s all left to the imagination.  Elizabeth isn’t so sure it’s an accident.  In the Blue Whale, Carolyn is all eyes on Burke. Joe is unhappy. Matthew is his usual surly self to Vickie and even Elizabeth as they query him about checking the brakes. He said it was two days ago in town at the garage. The clock in the Foyer strikes the time as Elizabeth looks at it. This is the first time I can remember this happening. Mostly a filler episode.

Vickie says in the Voiceover that she’s made a friend in David. During the episode he doesn’t seem all that friendly towards her and wishes his terrible lying father death and hatred.  She chats with David about a nasty little girl at the foundling home apparently trying to draw a parallel to David.
David asks his father is he’s going to send him away.  Roger is more interested in finding his car keys.
There is a nice exterior shot where Roger gets into the mustang and roars off. David watches from an upstairs window.  The crash is also filmed.  Elizabeth Collins Stoddard answers the phone. Roger has wrecked

A crescent moon above and pan down to the Great House. I don’t recall seeing this opening before.  Inside David reads mechanics magazine and fondles a small metal object. He then goes to Vickies room and rifles through her chest of drawers.  Vickie follows him to his room and the studio lights appear over her head.
Thunder clashes as Vickie and Carolyn. This must be the first storm.  Lightening flashes as the girls talk. The front door knocker can be heard all the way in Vickies room. Carolyn reveals her sneaky side and gets Joe to frequent the. BLue Whale where Burke parties by himself. The West Wing  door  opens and closes. Vickie blames David, but he comes out the door behind her and says it’s always locked.  The storm is fun.
