Current Talk '08 II / Re: Vicki's Mother

Vickie may never have been put up for adoption because they thought that her mother may have returned when she was able to care for her and then they were getting paid to keep her from the  mysterious benefactor.   The fact that nothing was known of Vickie's parents would have been a deterent to her adoption in those times.

Enjoyed the appearance of the pentagram.   Is Amy the cause of all the trouble at Collinwood?  She's lucky she didn't come to Collinwood in 1795 or she'd be facing the gallows.

I thought Maggie looked so out of place in Collinwood in her mod dress.  I'm not sure Dan Curtis could let a character fade off into the sunset it was  wyndcliff, widow's hill, or some violent murder.

My problem with the Woodard segment is that if he so desired to become a vampire then why would he risk it all by attacking the sheriff. He could easily have disposed of that tiny film.   It was great that Julia jumped in and saved the sheriff instead of looking on like a helpless bystander.  Victoria also seems to know no fear as she treks off after Sarah into the west wing.
I liked how they split the story up and began to develop the Roger storyline.  The scene with Maggie and Victoria was in a very New England setting and it was a good way to tell Laura's backstory to Victoria.  The writers should have done this in the first episode to let the viewer and Victoria in on some of the other characters and make it seem natural that the newcomer would be interested in finding out about the people she  would be working for.  Maggie's simple declaration that Laura was a witch makes one wonder if Collinsport is used to unusual happenings.
The scenes in the Old House with Angeligue's spirit were startling and spooky.

I was glad they pointed out that it was Madame as then and now it certainly looked like someone else at the bottom of the stairs.

I was thinking the same thing that  Cavada  and Grayson must have gone to the same acting school.  I always wonder why they continually brought back some truly awful actors and then others who were clearly able never returned.

The writers would want to throw in some red herrings to the mystery of Vickie's mother being Elizabeth to keep up the suspense. Liz  didn't really begin to trust Vickie enough to confide in her until the Jason storyline and then there is the question once she told Vickie after all this time how would she react and would she want to tell people and stir up gossip about the Collins family.  All these things should weigh on Liz's mind.

When Vickie asked anyone who knew Betty if they thought her picture looked like her, they said no, but when Carolyn saw it she thought it was Vickie.

Supposedly, in Art Wallace's original outline for the show,  Joseph and Carolyn were Liz and Roger's parents.  Carolyn died at age 38 giving birth to Roger and Joseph died three years later.   Liz was raised to take over the business and was busy raising a 20 years young brother.  Liz married Paul at ag 35 and three years later had Carolyn.  This comes from a book  called the History of Dark Shadows by Jim Pierson and was of course not totally followed by the shows later writers.

I wonder why the cradle was in the old house?  I haven't watched this storyline since it's original airing so I will have to keep this in mind to see if that is answered or forgotten by the writers as time goes by.  They were certainly lucky to have found Denise Nickerson

I had forgotten this was the first appearance of the theme and it  brought back how we wanted to hear more of it. No wonder it became so popular.   Having grown up with one grandmother who was a fortune teller and another who had ghostly visits and premonitions, all these clues have some meaning and have to be interpreted.  The Collins family are so good together and the actors bring so much to these characters.  I'm not missing Barnabas either.

I Think that Chris and Carolyn make a good couple.  They seem really to connect unlike any of Carolyn's former suitors.  David and Amy  work well together also.  I think it's great that David knows the house better than any of the others  that have  lived there longer than he.

I have to agree with Lydia on who cares.  Daphne who we know nothing much about get's attacked, died and then gets staked.  None of the character's seemed to show much emotion about it except Joe and it appears that Carolyn is waiting like a spider to snare Joe.

This was my favorite storyline as a child.  Now I notice that some of the props in the long closed West Wing are more modern than the furnishings in the used portion of the house.   I really liked the atmosphere that they created in Amy's room with the fire, furnishings, and window.  I also think that Liz's willingness to take in the little orphaned girl may have been due to guilt about another girl who grew up in a foundling home.
